Our work for BBN app.
BBN stands for Best Brokers Network. The rectangular shape is an abstract representation for a building/ door, surrounding the name. The shape implies connectivity for “network”. The strokes and font have curved edges to characterize the logo as “friendly”. The use of lowercase letters give the app a “easy to use” feel. #logodesign

Danish studio CEBRA has redesigned a science centre in Copenhagen, adding a shimmering copper-clad staircase that represents the structure of a DNA strand.
A stacked configuration of staggered rectilinear volumes that are offset from a brick plinth expresses the various functions of the internal programme.
The brick base was preserved from the original building, providing a tangible representation of the connection between past and future, as well as between natural science and engineering.
The upper volumes are clad with lightweight aluminium panels featuring a perforated pattern based on the way air and fluid behave when they encounter resistance.
Another element intended to reaffirm the building's scientific remit is the dramatic copper-clad Helix staircase, which is located just inside the entrance and can be seen by passersby on the street.
"The staircase ensures a good internal flow and creates coherence between the floors," said Nielsen. "At the same time, it substantiates the building's scientific focus."
"During a workshop with Jakob Bohr, professor at DTU Nanotech, we were inspired to work with the stairs as an abstract version of the DNA strand's structure," the architect continued. "And so, the idea for the Helix staircase was born."

The Centre for Film and Visual Media Research Birkbeck College
Architect: Surface Architects (Richard Scott)
Location: University of London, London, UK
The Centre is a unique research facility within the School of History of Art, Film and Visual Media. The project’s chief objective was to provide the Centre with a range of purpose-designed accommodation that will enable it to expand its activities, recruit additional staff and ensure its long-term future.
The auditorium of the centre is a tapering black volume at the heart of the project. Around this is the richly diverse break-out and circulation space. This space can been seen to have an ‘other–world’ quality of complex form, colour, light and texture. From this environment, occasional glimpses are offered to the familiar context of London’s Bloomsbury. Numerous connections are made to the original terrace that has been simply refurbished with a grey-scale palette to provide further teaching and office space.
Conceptually, the break-out circulation space is created by a ‘cutting block’ that tumbles through the ‘solid mass’ of the extension, morphing into different configurations. This movement is frozen at particular points in time like a stop frame animation. It creates a 3D cutting pattern that carves out the space and leaves a reciprocal imprint on the space. The material characteristics change as the shape changes, giving a variety of colour, texture and reflection.

Eclectism & art nouveau. In the 19th century, marked by the progress made in science and technology, it is obviously difficult to shape the new era. Art nouveau opposes the use of styles from the past and blending neo-renaissance, neoclassicism and neo-whatever ad random. The new style celelebrates youth and growth, away from conservatism but also from industrial produced consumer goods. Floral inspirated forms and sinious but clear lines instead of ionic columns, boring serial design and form-fading imagination of the impressionists. Soon however, art nouveau turned to be unaffordable, due to the labor-intensive production. #ljublijana#artnouveau#stilpluralismus#slovenia#neoclassical#architecture#instaarchitecture#instaarchitecturelovers#instagood#instadesign
