😃 #villastenersen#arkitektur#visitoslo
Roskilde Cathedral representing spirit of place. For more than 1000 years people’s faith has been embraced on this spot. The building is a body in stone filled with spirit and appreciated as world heritage. A living cultural and religious heritage.
The threewinged altarpiece in the canon’s chancel is from 1560 telling the Easter story above, and scenes from Jesus childhood below.
Entrance to the church is through the south porch, while the west door (swipe), the King’s Door, is used at royal visits. As a door for leaving the church it is only used at weddings, funerals and confirmations. The present door was executed by artist Peter Brandes, installed in 2010 and replaced an oak door from 1872.
The golden reflections from the inside of the door interacts with the golden altarpiece when moving towards west down the nave. The door shows Christ’s presence at the table breaking the bread, and the two disciples on their way to Emmaus, bowing their heads in reverence: ‘ And their eyes were opened, and they knew him, and he vanished from their sight’ (Luke 24:31).
(Swipe) Any door is a threshold, a transition, or a passover to another place. Here into the mystery of the sacred. Standing before the church you are met and welcomed by images of the twelve apostles. Welcome into the sacred space. #arkitektur#architecture#arkkitehtuuri#architektur#architectuur#architettura#kirke#church#kirche#kyrka#eglise#kirkko#chiesa#kerk#unesco#worldheritagelist#visiteuworldheritage#worldheritagesite#unescoworldheritage#kulturarv#heritage#roskildefestival#roskildedomkirke#roskildecathedral#peterbrandes#artist#artwork
I want to share with you this week’s progress at the château. In the following photos you will see the “after” and “before” photos in the former chapel. I wrestled for almost a year about whether to remove the beautiful stained glass windows. In the end, I decided that as spectacular as the chapel was, I would not really use it much as it was. So, I had it deconsecrated and began the renovation. The first step was carefully removing the stained glass windows and opening up the arches into doorways. One now enters directly into the château and the other to the gardens. I copied the new doors (seen above) from others at the château. It totally opened up the space and is the first step in its transformation. One of the most important steps in any restoration is figuring out what needs to stay and what needs to change to fit the needs of the day. It is rarely an easy decision. After looking at the various photos, I hope that you can understand why I made the decision I did.
