It's #ThrowbackThursday , so here's one all the way back to 28 June 1952, when the first-ever #MissUniverse beauty pageant took place. Repping India was the very talented Indrani Rahman. At a time when modelling was taboo, this 21-year-old mother of one from a conservative Madras became the first Miss India.
She didn't make the top 10 at Miss Universe, but who cares! Over the next many years, Rahman ended up taking Indian classical dance across the world. Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi, Katthakali, Odissi--she was a master. For her contribution to the arts, Rahman was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1969. An absolute legend, if you ask us. You have the entire land to yourself, and yet you ride a little blob of wood out into the deep sea to fish for food. Humans are crazy/awesome? 📸 Courtesy: @cntravellerindia's very own @rango_08.

For nearly 500 years, the Revdanda Fort has survived the sea and everything it brought along. It was built by the Portuguese in the 16th Century, and survived several attacks before being taken over by the Marathas and eventually the British. Today, getting there is a lot less painful: it's a short drive from #Alibaug on the way to Murud (120km from #Mumbai ). The only real risk is being waylaid by the delicious homely seafood you get at the many "khanavals" in the villages of Revdanda and Chaul.
