@yoga_supqueen on Alignment Tips 🛢
I am beyond ready to say goodbye to 2018, a year that has been full of ups and downs!
I am welcoming 2019 with open arms and I am so excited to be hosting a third year of #ResolutionHandstand2019 with my amazing cohosts:
We will be introducing some fun new shapes and lots of new drills!
Tomorrow we start off our year of handstands with straight up, as always. Straight up is a crucial shape to practice good alignment, I recommend using the wall while practicing alignment.
Our drill for tomorrow is wrist strengthening drills. I know wrists seem so small and not so important 😂 BUT they are so so very important to strengthen if you will be doing handstands everyday! Always warm up wrists before practicing handstands and do these drills daily to build strength. Wrists push ups with a neutral spine on hands and knees to modify or in plank!
Some helpful tips for staying strong and straight:
Feet engaged, toes pointed or flexed will make that happen. I like to think of trying to touch the sky with my toes.
Inner thighs engaged, think of squeezing them together and rolling leg internally.
Pull in core and knit ribs together, suck in your lower belly.
Push through shoulders, think of pushing into the earth.
Rotate shoulders and biceps externally.
Push into your palms will help with keeping those arms straight and shoulders rotated.
If balance is challenging here, use your finger tips or spidy fingers to keep you from falling backwards (trust me they help a lot)!!!!
Don't forget to breathe!
