Bambi buckets that we used to help fight the fires on Mount Kenya. A third of the moorlands were lost but it could have been much worse if the fires entered the forests. @mountkenyatrust together with @rhino.ark are continuing to monitor the situation incase new fires start. Let’s hope the rain comes soon! @timmy_flowers
We are devastated to hear that our former pilot and friend Captain Mario Magonga lost his life following a tragic helicopter crash on Sunday 3rd March at Lake Turkana in Northern Kenya. We are not familiar with the details of the accident, but we understand that he was flying a Bell 505 belonging to Nairobi based KIDL Helicopters at the time.
Mario was an invaluable member of the Tropic Air team from March 2008 till June 2015, during which time he held the positions of Chief Helicopter Pilot and Helicopter Flight Operations. He was an exceptional helicopter pilot, trained by Kenya Armed Forces where he served 12 years. He was extremely professional and capable and we had great respect for him both as a person and as a pilot. He left Tropic Air to pursue new flying opportunities out of Nairobi, and remained a great support and close friend. Our hearts go out to his family at this difficult time.
Fires are still spreading at an alarming rate, and changing wind direction is making them challenging to contain, but efforts are unfaltering. A spray plane is dropping tones of water on the most risky sections, 200 volunteers are fighting from dawn to dusk and the KFD are now on site to assist. Progress is being made. Donations are coming in from far and wide - food, water, blankets, machetes and money - and the support is overwhelming. Thanks to @mountkenyatrust for all their coordination work and to the many individuals and organizations involved.

DAY SIX #mountkenyaonfire
The fires on Mount Kenya are spreading and vast natural areas of moorlands are being burnt. There is a massive risk of these fires raging the indigenous forests and losses could be catastrophic. A Crowdfunding page has been set up to help fund the essential resources necessary to keep the teams on the mountain fighting. (Link in our bio). OR donate through MPESA - pay bill 329142 (Bill Woodley), account FIRES.
Please, however small, donate. Thank You. #@mountkenyatrust@kws

Bush fires are raging on the eastern side of Mount Kenya. Miles of moorland is being burnt at an alarming rate. @mountkenyatrust are coordinating efforts to bring the situation under control. They are being supported by the @dswt, BATUK and the Mountains Clubs of Kenya, along with many others. A Tropic Air helicopter will also be on site today. #mountkenyaonfire#FORPEAKSAKE
Brilliant effort by our team who took part in the RUSH 60km race over the weekend. Cyprian picked up a 2nd prize and all our riders finished strong. We had our helicopter supporting the event - tracking the riders, airlifting a couple of injured and carrying the fantastic @routesadventure cameramen who filmed and photographed the 3 day event.
A great privilege to have been the title sponsor of the @10to4_mountainbike_challenge for the 2nd year! #forpeaksake#tropicair10to4
