The western edge of the coast mountains, the best of both worlds.

Over the past few months my buddy @scott_kranz set out to climb 50 peaks in the North Cascades National Park. It’s been entertaining to watch him complete this journey and join in on few of those summits.
Tomorrow he’s doing a presentation of the journey in Seattle, if you’re available come check it out! More details on his page.

Looking back at our time out east I’d say that Cape Breton Island has been one of the best places to experience fall in Canada. The landscape was diverse, every road felt like a scenic drive and the hikes were short and rewarding. Every trip we make to the Maritimes the more we want to go back and spend more time.

After several “wows” and “holy cows”, Hayley and I are bittersweetly on our way home from a whirlwind trip to Cape Breton Island. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit this little big island on the east coast of Canada again, this time the landscape sporting its finest fall attire (and even some snow). What really made the trip was getting to meet a bunch of locals who were so passionate about their home and went out of their way to show us some of their favourite hikes. Franey Mountain, pictured here was easily a favourite.
Thank you @visitcapebretonisland for your hospitality!

I vividly remember hiking up this trail on an overcast evening and then popping out above the clouds to this view of Mount Baker. A lot of the time what may seem like the worst conditions end up turning into some of the most beautiful. The same as in life at times.

Hiking off of Mount Olive last winter after deciding to bail on the rest of the Wapta Traverse due to poor visibility and avalanche conditions. It’s always a tough decision to turn back especially after so much anticipation.
However as they say, the mountains will always be there and you can try again. (but could you imagine if they weren’t there anymore tho... for some reason they just crumbled and you lost your chance...😂). Stoked to give it another attempt this winter!

Hayley making her way across a fun and exposed ridge on the Aiguille d’Entréves. A classic route on the Mont Blanc Massif. Still buzzing from this climb even though it was last fall, one of the best days ever!
