We started the morning with a full Irish breakfast at the airport, spent the early afternoon exploring the Guiness Storehouse and then checked into our Dublin hotel for a quick catnap before heading out for some dinner, city wandering, and bubble waffle cones.
So far, our plan has been to have no plans, and we made it through the first jetlaggy day. We each have a few things on our must-do list, and the Guinness tour checked one off for me. I am positive tomorrow will be even better. Night night, friends.
Golden Pier || Muelle Dorado (East Pier Lighthouse, Dun Laoghaire. Ireland). "Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” George Eastman.
At the South of Dublin, about 20 minutes by train from the center of the Irish capital, is located the seaside resort of Dun Laoghaire. Its name comes from a great king of Ireland of the 5th century, who built a fort there to protect a port that served to connect the island with England and France. Interestingly, the city changed its name in the 19th century and was renamed Kingstown, this time in honor of the visit of King George IV of England. However, one year after the independence of Ireland, its original name was returned.
Today, Dun Laoghaire houses some interesting historical buildings, but its important port is the main attraction for Dubliners and tourists who escape to the city from the capital. Strolling along the East Pier, you can enjoy beautiful views over the city, the harbor and the bay of Dublin. At the end of it we find one of the two lighthouses of the city, a fantastic place to photograph the sunset. However, the bad weather had led me to choose to photograph the town hall building at the blue hour. When my girlfriend and I left the restaurant where we had dinner, we found a totally different sky and a light that told me that something interesting was going to happen. Although I had doubts, since this place is more than 15 minutes far by foot from where we were, I decided to run fast to try to get this composition I had found before for another day. While I was running it started to rain and behind me an impressive rainbow was formed. Luckily I arrived just in time to capture one of the most spectacular sunsets I've ever seen. Wherever I looked I saw a magic light illuminating everything. It was not easy to get clean photos because the lens got really wet, since the wind was bringing rain, but some of them came out without raindrops. When you know the light, do not doubt what may or may not happen, instead do everything possible to immortalize the moment. #dunlaoghaire#ireland
