Day 425 & 426 - Ancud, Chiloé, Chile
Ancud was sadly flattened in 1960 due to an earthquake of magnitude 8.5. Ancud now has a mixture of new and old, still retaining some native architecture that makes it so unique. Our favourite feature by far is the Chilote wood shingles, coming in all shapes and colours.
Whilst in Ancud we checked out the former Convent of the Immaculate Conception, to prepare ourselves for our tour of some of the 16 Unesco-listed churches spotted around Chiloé island. We also checked out the Museo Chiloé, mainly to see the huge, intact blue whale skeleton.
