📍 Gallarus Oratory, County Kerry One of the most iconic sites along the Dingle Peninsula route, Gallarus Oratory has been at the centre of a debate among historians for centuries . Many claim that it is one of oldest examples of a church remaining in Ireland. Thought to have been built between the seventh and eight centuries, Gallarus is certainly the best example of a stone church still standing from this time. Some however, claim that the chapel is a more modern addition. Although in this case, more modern is very much a relative term with the twelfth century suggested as an alternative timeframe. One way or another, it's nothing short of miraculous that this dry stone building has lasted in this notoriously windswept part of Ireland for so long . . #ireland #irelandcalling #wildatlanticway #irelandsancienteast #kerry #dingle #scenery #history #church #ireland_gram #travel #visitireland #instaireland #discoverireland #discoverni #tourireland #igtravel #tourismireland #bucketlist #yourwayireland #wanderlust #loveireland #instatravel #vacation #travelgram #irelandtravel #irishcentral #roadtrip
