"I'm telling you she doesn't belong. Not to one person, not to one place, not to one set of ideals. Her mind changed her heart, which changed her mind, and she was nothing, if not completely free. Maybe we are just afraid of anyone who is constantly searching. And anything that didn't clip her wings, or make her feel caged, was exactly where she was meant to be."
A lot of people had some questions when 18 of us women were prepping our packs to head for 3 days into the rugged MacDonald Valley. "There is no guys going? Like at all?" But that's exactly how my friend Jocelyn McDonald at @northernrockiesfitness planned it.
We trekked through boulder fields and forded rivers and had campfires and weathered a fierce hailstorm and laughed nearly the entire time we were out in the wilds. I'd say the only difference in comparison to the average male hunter who ventures out on this same trail was the amount of wine we packed on our backs.
This is how Wild Women Take the North.
Life has been pretty crazy lately, but pretty surreal. I've been back and forth and north and south and east and west and feel incredibly humbled to be able to travel to such diverse and remote parts of the province. I have a few hundred photos I've yet to even look at yet, let alone share, a consequence of being constantly on-the-go.
A blip in the craziness that has been my life, was this trip I took into the Muskwa Kechika a little over a week ago. My friend Jocelyn at @northernrockiesfitness asked me if I would photograph a women's backpacking trip and with extreme nerves and excitement I loaded my pack and hit the trail with 17 women.
The running theme of my thoughts for the three days we spent in the wilds was how insanely lucky I was to have a backyard that looks like this. I saw the area through the eyes of many people who were seeing it for their first time and it was pretty special.

My last morning commute from Terrace for awhile. You'd think the novelty would wear off after a few months straight of this, but right until the end I was still sitting on the edge of my seat, eyes wide, feeling like a kid in a candy shop. I am going to miss these rides.
