I was so insanely lucky this time around when I went to Abraham Lake- it was +3 degrees, hardly any wind and there were maybe 10 photographers. I think the weather gods were making it up to me for missing out on the epic sunrise/sunsets in Banff last weekend. They saw my struggle and determination as I fought to put on my ice cleats with a giant belly in my way, and they were like “poor girl...lets throw her a bone”. Now I have to sort through 530 photos- thank you, Abraham!

Well while the sky was on fire in Banff, I was photographing moody skies just 30 minutes away at Emerald Lake. I’ll get em next time!

Today I want to talk about Motivation or the Lack thereof. Yesterday I had all the intentions of getting up for sunrise to drive to the mountains and then I got lazy. It turned out to be a spectacular sunrise. Then I forced myself to drive around aimlessly in Banff and I was feeling so tired, lazy and unmotivated. I would get to a location and not even get out of car- I had decided “Meh! It’s not worth it”, without even trying to take a photo. And then I drove home cause I was so out of it and missed an epic sunset as well. Missed opportunities everywhere all because of my negative state of mind. Sometimes it’s ok to take a breather and stay home and recharge. But if you are determined to do something do it with intention and a positive attitude- or you will end up missing out big time like I did. I let my mind completely sabotage my creativity and inspiration. But- I will leave you with one of the few photos from yesterday that I liked.

So the talented @danibanff today posted a summer throwback hoping for -40 degree temperatures. Yes you read that right- she wants MINUS 40, lol! So Dani, to counteract the possible effects of your masochistic wishful thinking- I’m gonna post my own throwback and wish for hot “summer time and the living is easy”
Shoutout to @emilyimages_ for nailing the hair flip so gracefully which let me tell you is way, way, way harder than it looks- I’ve tried and failed miserably. 📸Nikon D7500 @nikoncanada#nikonca

What do you get from sitting on the ice too long? Polaroids.

Fun Fact: Did you know that wolves share more DNA with a chihuahua than a husky?
You can learn more fun facts like this at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary in Cochrane. It is so worth the short trip!
Also- Please Stay tuned on Wednesday for an IG story take over for @nikoncanada where I will be sharing my tips for animal photography.
I hope everyone had a great weekend!

During my week off work I spent a lot of quality time with my family and it was just so nice to not be connected to my phone, to be present and reflect on things that matter. I checked my Activity on my IG and it shows that I spend an average of 1:07 hours a day on Instagram. My realistic resolution for this year is to bring that number down to 40 minutes/day. While I do enjoy being social and I’m so grateful to have this platform to share my work and connect with you, I need to start emphasizing quality of time spent doing this over quantity. I’d love to know how much time you spend on average on IG and what your thoughts are on this. 📸Nikon D7500 @nikoncanada

Early morning sunrises at one of my favourite places. In this photo I’m combining 3 of my favourite compositional tips for landscapes: Reflections-Long Exposures-Foreground.
I’m taking a few vacation days to relax and recharge and get my motivation back for 2019.
I hope everyone has a happy New Year! 📸Nikon D7500 @nikoncanada
