As a full time football coach ⚽️ I have a responsibility to be fit, healthy, and energetic. That’s why I choose the best nutrition alongside a healthy active lifestyle 💪🏼
I expect the kids to show up right. So I must do the same. These players are just as inspiring as the pro’s! 🏆
Welcome to our youth athletic development group, with kids ages K-12. Here we have our younger athletes working with sleds focusing on lower body strength and our older athletes working on their squat technique, closely spotted by our trainer, Corey. We aim to meet the needs of all ages of kids to help them be the best they can be. By splitting our group into younger and older athletes we can focus closely on their strengths and abilities. #coreblend#neversettle

Having coached this group of young men hailing from different states for only a few days, the product was impressive. Now imagine what your daughter/son can gain as a athlete and a person by being a part of the Michael Hawthorne Football & Performance Academy.
My name is Michael Hawthorne, a Booker High Alumni, Purdue University Alumni & Professional Athlete. I've developed a passion for inspiring people to find themselves, find their purpose and passion for things that are important to them. Big or small, athlete or average person, male or female, it's all the same. Help is help and I'm about making you better on and off the field. My teaching/coaching/mentoring/training is not limited to football, all sports are welcome.
MH Football & Performance Academy is designed to bring out the best in any athlete by providing them a great foundation/platform to excel from. (*Nothing strong ever has a weak foundation.) Obtaining knowledge and executing it, leads to a much more successful outcome. Added bonus is my contacts/connections w/ college & pro coaches.
Saturday's @ 8am (Contact for specific location). I want to gather area athletes from all schools, to take advantage of the MH F & P Academy. (Contact to set up your 1 on 1 session or team training separately.)
Sarasota & Manatee County are the base of operation. Travel outside of the base of operation is available.
The fundamental aspect of building respect, discipline, drive, dedication, determination, and having fun while playing sports is lost. Those important aspects are also lost in life, which is integral to our success or failure. It's time to restore respect, discipline, drive, dedication, determination, & fun back into athletics and life.

Our focus is not to create mindless drones that do what we ask without question, but build intellectual leaders who want to understand the “why” of what we do and spread that message to others. Santino has been with us almost a year and is a great ambassador to our program. Anytime a new lifter comes in and has questions he’s the first to jump in and lead by example. Proud of him and all the other athletes who like to lead by example. #elmhurst#sportsperformance#leadbyexample#youthathletes#goodathlete#proudcoach#strengthandconditioning
Day 3 with 8 y/o LJ. He’s making amazing progress so far. Little man said he wants to play at Bama or Clemson when he’s older. So we are in the lab to make the dream a reality. Super focused and extremely mature for his age, and a great student 👌🏾 so skys the limit. Welcome aboard LJ. Super excited for the future. 💪🏾🦁 #brightathlete@lawrence_richardson0914
Tell me what you think about this drink! Comment below. 👇🏼
Drinking sugar-sweetened beverages can have a negative effect on performance and make it hard for your body to control your blood sugar. 🥤
These tall cans of sweet tea are popular among teens and adults alike. A full can (on the left) has 18 teaspoons
(72g) of sugar, which is 3x the daily limit for kids and teens.🤭⠀
1 serving, which is 1/3 of a full can (on the right), has 6 teaspoons (24g) of sugar, which is the daily limit of added sugars for kids and teens. 🤯
Fact: The American Heart Association recommends no more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day for kids and teens.🤓
Bottom line: if you are going to drink these drinks, pay attention to serving size, keep them to a minimum and try not to drink before a game or workout! 💪🏼⠀

This is a reminder to all my PPTC athletes, as well as any athlete out there who might need the reminding, self care is crucial for an athlete!! One of the most important elements of being a GREAT athlete in general is health and consistency. In order to go to the next level in any sport, you need to play consistently, and play consistently well. That's where the health part comes in! Can you stay healthy the entire season? How about the entire year so you can train in the offseason and get better?! It is extremely crucial for athletes of all sports and skill level to adapt an attitude of self care for both our physical and mental well being.
Take time in your busy day to feed positivity to your stress and mood. Schedule yourself down time every day to make sure that you get the rest and recovery your body needs. Full your system with a balanced diet and limit alcohol consumption (cut it out altogether if possible). And most importantly, build a trusted support network from family and friends who feed positivity towards your goals and overall happiness / well being! *Tag an athlete who needs to be reminded of self care!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Champion of the Month ⭐️⭐️⭐️ In order to improve his performance in skiing, @jack_c_tobin knew he needed to become stronger and more agile.
So on the recommendation of a friend, he joined F.I.T. in 2017.
Since joining F.I.T., Jack has not only accomplished a 300-pound back squat and 30.5-inch vertical jump, but he also finished in eighth place in the slalom and super G combined at the Wisconsin High School Ski and Snowboard Championships in February.
The Madison West High School junior attributes part of his success to getting stronger and faster.
By the end of his high school career, Jack hopes to finish in first place at the state competition.
For his efforts, he’s been named F.I.T.’s “Champion of the Month” for August. #championofthemonth#highschoolathletes#skier#downhillskiing#youthathletes#Madison#FITStrong
This weekend I had the great privilege of listening to one of the nations leaders in load management and injury prevention for runners, Rich Willy @rich_willyii The course was amazing and I came back with sooo many pearls on how to improve my assessment and treatment of runners. But the thing I heard the loudest is that road 🚴🏻♂️cyclist need to spend a lot more time on our Mt. 🚵♂️ bikes to help with our bone density. You guys know me all too well I don’t need any more reasons to hop on another bike. Any who, Stay tuned and I’ll be sharing tons of the great little golden nuggets for you runners. ▶️Deadlift from Pin: Below Knee◀️
The deadlift is a great lift that has benefits from picking up your groceries, to your kids, to maximizing posterior chain strength to creating full body strength and tension and stiffness.
While deadlift has made a great comeback due to so many wonderful aspects and benefits, it can be easily misunderstood or progressed to rapidly (i.e. rushing to Barbell Deadlift from the floor). Of priority are the clear understanding of goals/outcomes as well as the athlete’s or fitness enthusiast’s limitations.
One common limitation for deadlifting is ROM, specifically the hips. The ability to get into clean, quality hip flexion is often extremely difficult.
Here is a simple progression that can be used to gradually work into deeper and deeper deadlift positions while keeping intact many of the benefits of the deadlift pattern.
1️⃣ Hip to shoulder width stance.
2️⃣ Overhand (closed) grip slightly wider than thighs
3️⃣ Bar starting position should be directly below COM and above the center of foot (or tongue of shoe)
4️⃣ Hinge into position with maintenance of perfect spine posture
5️⃣ Abdominals braced and bar pulled in as close to shins as possible to increase abdominal brace and Lat activation
6️⃣ “Squeeze” the bar off the rack/pins while constantly pulling the bar in and extending the knee and maintaining the torso angle
7️⃣ Once the bar is past the knee, extend the hips
Give me a holler if you any questions!
Young lifter @ross_sinclair1 working on his form for cleans with 60kg. We've been trying to temper Ross' strength with improved form and timing in the pull, all of these things are just as important as strength. Rumour has it Ross may be a part of the team going to represent OAWLC at North District Championships, which we are really excited about! 💪💪💪

Honest post. Training youth athletes (ages 6-14)
Training youth athletes is probably the most fun yet challenging athletes to train. They are sponges to information and mechanics however very unaware to body control, awareness, and perceiving the process it takes to be great.
I’ve been really diving into trying to understand why some young athletes display proper mechanics under conditioning and why others have a really tough time staying true to form under fatigue.
Here is one coaching process I use to get the athletes where I want them to be and two theories I have for the two types of athletes I’ve had the privilege to train.
The first is getting the kids to trust you once they trust you they will jump off a bridge if you tell them to after that comes getting the young athlete to fully understand and encompass the process it takes to be great rather than tell them the things they are doing wrong. You have to get them to buy in to what it takes to become the athlete they want to be and dream of becoming and not the Athlete they are today. Once they understand what they need to do to become that future athlete they will fully embrace the process and drills and work hard every day to help you train the way you need.
The athletes who are held to a standard of high expectation, starting at home! I always find are the ones that perform well in a training environment displaying proper mechanics even when times get tough, I can always find them making a proper adjustment without coaching cues when they get to the level where they understand the movement and they are the ones who approach the coach at the beginning of this session saying hello and when they feel confident in their ability also helping coach up other kids.
The kids who are held at a “safe” standard end up being the ones who give up when times become tough, end up having poor body language that will ultimately carry into life, and not embrace work ethic. Honest observations. Let’s hold our youth to high expectations!!
