**MEET THE CAST & CREW**
ELLIE NEWMAN - PRODUCER
A rare example of a Physics student who likes singing and performing; Ellie joined the society in her first year of university when she decided to audition for their production of "The Gondoliers" in 2016 and was cast in the role of Giulia. Since then she has been cast in a variety of operettas by Gilbert and Sullivan, including the role of the Counsel in "Trial by Jury" and the Fairy Queen in "Iolanthe". She has also taken on the role of Music Director for a number of shows both within and outside the society. She is currently the Secretary on the committee, and spends most of her time excitedly making spreadsheets for everything under the sun (and doing the occasional bit of work for her degree). This is the first show she has produced, and she feels incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such a talented cast.

Dusk settles over Kings Staith on the banks of the River Ouse. The perfect spot for a riverside stroll and a pint at the pub. However, you might need your armbands if it's been raining heavily in the distant Dales, when the swollen rivers Swale and Ure send torrents of water down into the Ouse and on to York 🌊😮 #viewfromthebridge#ousebridge#riverouse#kingsstaith#citybreak#york#yorkshire
Sir Duncan of Redthorn and Stephanie Orellien in After The Dragon by Calvin Jordan.
Some people were asking for some more photos of the show so here they are. First is of Stephanie playing to Duncan. The second is Duncan pointing to a castle that we didn't have the budget for, third is Stephanie declaring she'll be a great bard, and the fourth is Duncan being sadface (again).
One of the brilliant things about Calvin's writing was how he interrogated the genres he used. Stephanie, played by Eliza Martin, is a bard who seeks out Sir Duncan and his company, who famously killed a dragon, to write a ballad about them. But when she finds them, they turn out to be a bunch of drunken rogues. Sir Duncan refuses to give details and tells her to just make something up, whereas the others' stories of heroism border on the fantastical. It was a play interested in the way stories are told, especially when romanticised through song.
Which meant the show was a musical. Woo! Except I didn't actually do much singing. Oh. It wasn't really Sir Duncan's style. Most of it was done by Eliza and I've gotta give her full props for the beautiful singing, guitar playing and somehow not destroying the guitar. I waved a sword around at one point, it could've totally happened. That and Eliza and I had the best outfits, hands down. She had a feather in her hat and I had a sword, you can't beat that. I enjoyed our scenes together as I always felt Stephanie's slow unpicking of Duncan's trauma was the heart of the show. But then, I was the one in those scenes so of course I'd think that.

Just a reminder that exercise makes you happy! Exercise both releases endorphins and reduces stress. Following 20-30 minutes of aerobic exercise, the positive effect on our mood lasts for 12 hours! (Research by Jeremy Sibold, University of Vermont)

I love...the fact it's getting lighter on a night. So much so that the bar walls are still open to walk on after work (they normally close at dusk)
I also love the fact that the lights are still on the gateways. I'm not sure when they will turn them off...hopefully you will get to see them at the weekend Sue (@suepalmer50 )

Я хоть и занят мячиком, все равно слежу одним глазом за происходящим вокруг 😁. Though I'm busy with a ball, I'm still watching one eye for what's happening around 😁
