#westernwall#churchoftheholysepulcre and #domeoftherock on #templemount . .
Back from Israel/West Bank, I’d like to share a few pictures.
. #YERUSHALAIM#JERUSALEM or #ALQUDS is the fascinating theatrical stage for the three big monotheistic religions. Jews pray at the Western Wall, putting little notes between the rocks, Muslims flock up to the Temple Mount to attend prayer at #alaqsa , Christians walk the #viadolorosa with wooden crosses and put their hands in a tiny hole to touch the rock of #golgatha . The different religious practices are like a big ballet, a huge choreography of believers. Yet, this city is a symbol of something that points far beyond the age-old religions, their followers, and their inappropriate, possessive claims regarding the city.
Jerusalem is a true symbol for #UNITY IN #DIVERSITY .
It reveals to us in its vital, monumental existence that #mankind can create something bigger than itself and – in its best moments, in peaceful contemplation or action – understand and accept the #meta#structure of #individual#difference , #common#shared#space and #selfconfident yet #sensible and #respectful#interaction . While this strikes you in the concrete situation there, it’s very much valid also on a more general, abstract, global level. That’s the beauty of it and thus it's a great thing to go and experience.
Thank you to all those people there who live, love, work, act in this city – towards more understanding and tolerance. If you guys can make it there and stay strong and humble, everyone can do it. – To all those people who try do divide, create mistrust and war: May you understand your mistakes soon enough and change your ways.
