Train of roots. 🌲 Footsteps are tricky on this ancient forested path in the Alerce Costero National Park near Valdiavia, Chile. The park doesn’t receive any more than a couple thousand visitors per year, so we felt kinda special being alone in this trek to ‘Alerce Milenario’, the oldest living thing in the Southern Hemisphere (more on that to come). The park is reached after a moderate drive over dirt roads from the East which included a few steep inclines where we were unsure if our minivan would make it..but glad we pushed on. The park is known for its Alerce trees, which look very similar to a miniature Sequoia, and only grow in a few small areas of South America. #chile#alercecostero
So you should come to Portugal naked. Yes I said that, since I've basically replaced nearly everything in my backpack with ridiculously cute, comfortable items, leaving old items at hostels as giveaways to keep my backpack nice and light. Yesterday I stumbled on the main shopping street in Porto - Rua de Santa Catarina - and holy crap. Let's just say as a former shopping addict I held it together pretty well. 😉 However there's one store for which I seem to have developed a weakness - @Oysho - where everything is light and flowy and mostly made of linen. I fell to the shopping gods and bought a beautiful mauve pants suit (feeling very European, no?), the frill sleeve white shirt (that I, miraculously, have yet to stain!), as well as the super comfy mustard linen pants (I'll pretty much buy anything in mustard color from now on)... so yes you could say that I have fallen in love here in Portugal...with @oysho. 😍 But as far as packing goes I try to pack pieces that are good for mixing and matching. I have a super comfy, stretchy pair of jeans from a clothing swap that are simply amazing (thanks, Emilia!). I've also packed a pair of leggings as well as a few standard t-shirts. And lastly - my most beloved piece which you have seen in all the photos and has traveled with me to many countries - a stretchy jean jacket that serves great in all weather. So basically, you don't need much! Don't overpack. Trust me you can always find things you need if you need them. And if you don't believe me read one of my favorite books by @clarabenson called No Baggage where she traveled overseas with nothing but the outfit she is wearing. It's inspiring!
