"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." ~ A little quote from your friend and ours, Dr Seuss
We like taking inspirational quotes literally so have followed Dr Seuss' advice to the letter, haha.
New walking adventures sharing soon.
I left my house in pajamas this morning to run an errand and grab a coffee after dropping a kid at school. Thankfully the winter coat and blanket scarf disguised my bedtime attire.
As I stepped out of my van and breathed in the cold morning air I was overwhelmed with the freshness and the crispness of the morning. It was blastedly cold, but also strikingly beautiful. The wind was negligible and the cold air on my face and in my lungs made my body feel more awake and alive than it ever is at 8:30 in the morning.
I grabbed my coffee and was going to leave for home, but the peace of the unpacked coffee shop was too good to pass up, and I knew that my cluttered house was much less cozy.
As I watched vehicles pass outside and thought back to the moment that the cold are entered my lungs my body made it very clear that it wanted more of that, and wanted me to move it. -30 or not, it didn't matter.
I'm still learning how to listen well. It's tricky to do things for our bodies that we don't always want to do. I didn't really want to be cold. But I came home and got ready as I had a few other things to go out and do today, and found a trail to walk near my destination.
Tuning in isn't always easy. It's not always convenient. So many days I know exactly what my body needs and still fail to move in ways that treat it with kindness and love.
But every now and then, when the sun is bright and the air is crisp it's too loud for me not to listen. It was gloriously peaceful and bright. It was so good to feel my heart beat and to feel deeply alive in each breath. It was exactly what I didn't know I needed today. I'm glad my body knew.
Wishing you ears to hear from yourself today and a deep awareness of how to nurture your own being in ways that are life-giving and soul filling.
Trudging through the wetland’s crunchy snow for our early morning walk. Paying close attention to all the things we see, and hear. Little webs formed in the frozen over boot marks, while tiny Winter birds skim past us. #alaska#winterwalk#homeschool
