How can you say you know me,
When you’ve only seen my skin,
And not the untamed world I hide,
That’s growing deep within,
You havent heard my ribs all creak,
Behind each plaited vine,
Or swim beneath the waterfall,
That cascades down my spine,
You’ve not been here for long enough,
To watch a new life start,
Or find the run down castle,
Lying just inside my heart,
You haven’t climbed the branches,
That are wrapped around each lung,
Swaying with the breezes,
That come dancing past my tongue,
Don’t mark me with your footprints,
If you plan to leave too soon,
And only want to know me,
When my plants are all in bloom, .Because the birdsong might be pretty,
But it’s not for you they sing,
And if you think my winter is too cold,
You don’t deserve my spring. -e.h

Our culture likes to tell us there is something imperfect about ourselves...something we need to fix. This mostly happens through a daily barrage of advertising. The irony saying this, while promoting my business, is not lost... however, this retreat is a chance to escape all that.
In a shamanic journey, there is an event that can happen called dismemberment. It is when the spirits destroy your physical illusion and ego allowing you to become pure consciousness. When they reassemble you, it is called re-membering. Rewilding is similar to re-membering. You connect with the consciousness of nature. You remember that nature is part of you + you are part of it. You relearn that curiosity, awareness + passion are at the core of your being through this connection. Tourmaline Center's Summer Solstice Rewilding Weekend is a chance to remember your core self. *

Happy New Year earthlings…
Yes, I’m doing it. I’m putting out a New Year’s post on Jan. 23nd and surfacing again after a heavily introspective start to another year. What better photo to go with it than one of that wild moon that finally showed itself late Sunday night!
I had a big date planned with that moon… I loaded up the truck early with camera gear, food and coffee. I had a full tank of gas, warm clothes and a home made tea light candle heater in case I ended up sleeping in the FJ somewhere in the boonies. I wanted trees and mountains and silhouettes. I would point my camera at the night sky and the Super Moon would blush and dance and all the wolves of history would howl. Clouds had other plans however. This is photography. This is being a tiny human in the endless sea of space and hoping for clear skies above Alberta on this night, humbled… - Much later at the time of the actual eclipse, after retreating back to town, I stuck my head out into the night again and things had changed some. It was still hazy but the clouds had cleared enough to get a few shots of it glowing blood red in a black sky, looking either beautiful or ominous or maybe both depending on whose eyes drank it in. I wondered about the countless creatures of the past that had stopped and stared at such a sight and felt its power too.
- For me it seemed the perfect metaphor for the past year and for what might lay ahead. Big ups and big downs, stuff that worked and stuff that didn’t, hard truths and encouraging victories. You stare at the clouds long enough and the good stuff starts to shine through again, you just might have to adjust your position. It wasn’t the photo I had envisioned, but it was the perfect experience in that moment… and I shot it from my deck in my pyjama pants, so winner winner chicken dinner.
The winds of change are blowin’ strong again for this guy. Completely stoked and utterly freaked out, two key ingredients for big things to happen. I hope 2019 brings you all to the new heights and places you dream of. -
Eye on the prize, Don’t Quit, Just Keep Swimming… pick whatever works for you, but make sure you get out there and Howl!
