WINE TOUR OF CAMPANIA: 2011 Feudi di San Gregorio Aglianico di Taurasi
💪🍷Larger than life Taurasi💪🍷
The wine style that is Taurasi, is made from the grape varietal Aglianico and is often referred to as the Barolo of the South and is famed for their larger than life personalities. Taurasi wines are full bodied, bold and require time in the bottle and glass to soften their edges. Feudi San Gregorio is a producer at the forefront of revitalizing the Avellino hills and is affirming its place among the Italian winemaking elite with 24 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri awards. Just remember that this wine will need decanting over several hours and the table set to enjoy some of your favourite roasted meats.

Poll Result: What’s In A Name 🤔
And the correct answer is....... “Agree” (For the most part)
New world (USA, Australia, Argentina, etc) wines identify the grape varietal on the label while wines from Europe (old world) are typically named after the region they come from rather than the grape varietals.
In France wines are named after regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône, etc rather than Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Syrah, etc.
In Italy wines are called Barolo, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino rather than Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, etc.
In Spain wines are named after regions like Rioja, Ribera Del Duero, etc rather than Tempranillo, Viura, Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo.
That said, there are countries in Europe like Germany that do use the grape varietal in the name (e.g. Riesling, Gewerstemeiner), so this rule clearly doesn’t apply 100% of the time, but pretty close.
I usually ask for feedback via DM but his time I intentionally didn’t do so. I knew there are some grey areas and fully expected to get unsolicited responses from at least one of my wine lovers out there. And I was right. 😄
Here’s the feedback I got from @part_time_vintner:
“I think the variety is included on the new world wines much more than old world (MUCH more), but I think the world recognizes a Napa Cab is different from Sonoma, Washington or Santa Cruz Mountain Cab. Maybe I’m splitting hairs... just don’t want to discount the value of the new world regional brands! 🍷🍷” Thanks Ryan! Just the type of passion I was looking to draw out through this poll! 👍😄 While “Agree” was the correct answer, thanks to the technicalities I mentioned above, even with the opposite response one could claim to be partially right! 😂 Cheers! 🍷

ALMEJAS AL VINO BLANCO
Fine clams steamed in white wine, parsley and garlic sauce
It is a glorious day today because its National Wine Day 🍷!! #fbf to this beautiful view last year in Bellingham, WA on the @red_raspberries tour. Don’t remember what kind of wine was in my glass, but I do recall that it was delicious and went perfectly with my raspberry sorbet! Don’t mind the bird poop on the table 🐦 💩 •
