What is the most unique whiskey you’ve ever tasted?
This week was my first time trying a Willett XCF and what better place to start than with version 1.0 at Delilah’s.
XCF stands for Exploratory Cask Finish which makes this a very unique whiskey. It is small batch American Rye Whiskey finished in Curaçao casks sources from France.
This combination leads to a whiskey that is truly unlike any other. It has a good balance of flavors which is impressive considering it is the only liquor of any kind I have seen finished in Curaçao cask and speaks to the expertise of the palates, noses, and general spirits intuition behind the people who put together this bottling.
The willett was certainly more obscure but the most unique whiskey I have ever had is the Delilah’s 24th anniversary bottling which I believe is 100% Rye whiskey aged in ex-Makers Mark barrels, transferred to ex-Laphroaig 10 year barrels, and then finished in sherry casks giving the whiskey three incredibly distinctive and very different flavors.
