Found this gem today; super hard to get here on the east coast for a half decent price. This is essentially the same “juice” as my Pappy Lot B but the lot B is the first pick of the bunch. Working on that Weller Collection 😏 as Mark Twain once quoted, “too much of anything is bad but too much good whiskey is barely enough” #whiskey#allthewhiskey#sitbackandsip
I’m a huge fan of the classic Whiskey Sour. Only recently I found out that there is a fun and tasty variation to it that I hadn’t seen before. The New York Sour. A little red wine is added on top via a float and wow it really opens up nicely. Since the red wine is the first thing your nose smells, you get all the nice wine notes with the sour flavor you’re used to.
It’s believed that the New York Sour was actually born in Chicago in the late 1800’s. It wasn’t mixed in but floated on top.
When adding the wine float to mine, it didn’t go as well as I wanted but sometimes cocktails do that and they are none the less fantastic. I really enjoyed this and even though the float didn’t go as I wanted, it was really good. Try it and let me know how it goes for you.
New York Sour
2oz favorite bourbon
3/4 oz Simple Syrup
1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
Top with your favorite red wine. I used Merlot
Add bourbon, simple, lemon juice and egg to a shaker (no ice yet) and shake for about 30-40 seconds. This will get super frothy liquid. Add ice and shake an additional 30 seconds. Strain into rocks glass filled with ice. Use a bar spoon to float wine on top. Add Luxardo cherry to top. Enjoy.
