Tucson! You are beautiful 💚
I started making jewelry in 2012. Each year I told myself “I’ll make it to Tucson one day”. 7 years later I’m finally here for the last few days of the #tucsongemshow2019 🙌🏼 .
Lessons I’ve learned so far for next year: .
-Rent a car. I’m using Uber everywhere and while it’s nice talking to people I thought it would be cheaper and it’s definitely not. .
-Don’t wear converse, wear walking shoes. I have a blister on one foot already and I was only here for half a day yesterday. .
-The Lodge on the Desert has proven to be the best choice ever. It wasn’t too expensive and it feels totally comfortable and safe. I’m a lone ranger on this trip so safety is a really good feeling. Not to mention it’s adorable and very photogenic. .
I can’t wait to see what I’ll find today!

Magic hour at painting HQ 🎨 I can’t wait until winter when I can leave the window and blind open at this time in the afternoon and let all the sunshine stream in.
My snow day activity was to clean and organize my studio. I never really unpacked since moving in mid-October. I got half the studio unpacked and somewhat organized. I still need to set up my tools and get some better lighting, but I think I’ll be able to work more efficiently with the little bit I did today. Now I can sit and daydream and watch the snow fall.
This is a corner of my workspace. I have a counter height area so I can stand and work when needed. I do all my packaging here. That stripy binder contains my pattern archive(that sounds fancy doesn’t it?!😂). That little lidded galvanized pot is my desktop trash can. Also on the counter is a vintage sugar mold which when I got it was still crusted with sugar and needed a good scrub! It’s a great storage container for scissors and pens etc. I also have a few special bits and pieces here like that red heart stone and a pair of vintage Indian printing blocks that my son gave me.
sorry i’ve been quiet around here lately - just keeping myself busy with more projects than i can count. one of those projects? a couple of new original mini paintings that will be going live in my shop THIS FRIDAY! you miiiiiight want to turn on post notifications so you don’t miss out! i’ll only have 4 available! 😳💕 woohoo!
Worked in the studio today. Cleared out more stuff. Emptied my inspiration board and started over. Reorganized. Feels better now. Maybe part of creative block is when our work spaces become too full of stuff. We need room to dream! #artstudio#whereicreate#watercolorist
This time last year I was slightly less tidy (or perhaps busier sewing😆) and my plants were a little smaller, other than that, I’ve been too busy to make many changes in my studio. Give me time ⏳🤪👍🏻

I’ve always felt most inspired making my art in my home. “home” has had its colorful interpretations in my life, but has never ceased to be my favorite place; a safe space to create + dream.
. . . .
from the room in the house I grew up in, where the walls changed color every handful of years, with each moon-phase of life. with the bedding bearing a small indigo colored paint stain because art was almost always made on my bed. + the closet doors half covered with a temporary mounted raw canvas as I created the piece that ended a long art-making hiatus + eventually called me to my island home.
. . . .
+ the long-retired horse stall, my first home in hawai’i, that I shared with my best childhood friend for seven months. I remember its heavy sliding door, waking with the chickens, the art + found objects + over-worked paint brushes in recycled jars intentionally arranged on turquoise painted shelves + the all-night valentine crafting for new friends.
. . . .
+ then the childhood dream-come-true in the form of a rusted bluebird school bus: Destino. she was as old as I was + over the course of a year + a half of calling her “home”, she was my canvas.
. . . .
then the merging of two lives, when I moved my small collection of belongings into a purple house where my love lived. I claimed the extra bedroom as a place to unpack my treasures + stage my art + it acted merely as a space that felt creatively “mine” in a home where someone else’s things had already been existing.
. . . .
+ then majorly down-sizing life to fit two people into a 9x16 foot “shack”, as we lovingly called it, that was perched on a hill with million dollar views of the sea, that rocked in the high winds + where the bed was the only seating + again the only place to make art. somehow I coordinated four art shows within a year from here.
. . . .
+ now this space. custom crafted + at times, even here, I’ve struggled with space for dye pots + surface space to cut large bolts of fabric. (continued below in comments 👇)
AD | Never mind a room of one’s own, I’m loving a pen pot of one’s own. Seriously, I hope it means the kids will stop “borrowing” my pens 😆
I think this terrazzo style one from @primark.home is meant for the bathroom but it’s the perfect size for my needs. I also picked up some other bits to brighten 💡up my home office aka the dining room. The lamp is battery powered so can be moved anywhere. The little glass coffee cup comes with a lid too, which means fewer tepid cuppa’s and more time for writing ✍🏼 #PrimarkHome@Primark#ad
The most common question that you guys have been asking since we announced that we might be moving had been “ How can you leave that craft room??!!” And the answer- it won’t be easy!! I LOVE my craft room. But the reality is, I can create a new one. For me that’s half of the fun!
I love to design and creating new spaces! In high school I wanted to be an interior designer and I honestly don’t remember why I didn’t pursue that. I still love it today, but have zero desire for it to be my job, but when it comes to my home I still love it!
So while we wait today I’ll be working right here, in my happy little space getting your August boxes finished and I get to start working on FALL!! 🎃 Any special requests for fall decor this year?!

I haven't had a whole lot of time to create lately, which has been a bummer. We are in the midst of trying to sell our home, and while ::living:: in a staged home is challenging, it has really never looked better.
This the sewing space I am leaving behind. It's been a dream to work in, and is where I started sewing. I think I might miss this the most.
I hope the next owners feel the same inspiration I did.
