Mosquitoes don't scare us... But SHARKS...well... we give them lots of space 😂😂😱😱. Sharks are incredible creatures, but we like to observe them from the safety of our couch during #sharkweek lol
Hope everyone had an awesome first official summer weekend!
💪🦈 #weregonnaneedabiggerboat
The only two things no one can take away from you is your effort and attitude. Had so much fun failing miserably at rope climbs, breaking a borrowed jump rope and continuing on.... and then doing well in the last workout of the day. Tomorrow swimming with fishes! Watching jaws tonight in preparation #weregonnaneedabiggerboat
Happy Belated Birthday to one of the greatest shark movies of all time. Jaws is such a classic that I was scared of the film when I first saw it. Steven Spielberg made such an amazing movie and a icon. Richard Dreyfuss, Robert Shaw and Roy Scheider did great Jobs in this movie. #jaws#greatwhite#weregonnaneedabiggerboat#sharks#stevenspielberg
June 20, 1975 - "Jaws" is released theatrically in the US.
The original "Jaws" is a perfect movie in nearly every way. Spielberg's narrative control, his visual storytelling, his sense of pacing... are all just incredible. He establishes character quickly without sacrificing integrity, giving us characters we're invested in & care about. Spielberg instinctively knows that what we don't see if often what scares us most, & his build-up to the eventual shark reveal is masterfully constructed. It's easy to see why "Jaws" pretty much invented the summer blockbuster as we know it today, smashing box office records & making an entire generation afraid to go in the ocean, much as Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" had done for showers 15 years prior.
Take, for instance, the scene on the beach, when young Alex Kittner (Jeffrey Voorhees) is killed by the shark. It's such a brilliant set-up: Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) suspects that a shark is stalking the waters off Amity Island, but driven by fear of closing the beach on the busiest week of the year, the mayor (Murray Hamilton) refuses to let him close the beaches. Brody is the only one on the beach who suspects anything is wrong. As the people go about their business on the beach, Spielberg slowly brings the camera in on Brody, using passers-by as excuses to cut closer and closer in on his face. It's so subtle, & so ingenious, & done completely without music to enhance the tension (something John Williams' immortal score does brilliantly elsewhere), before finally exploding into chaos when the shark attacks the Kittner boy. Yet, in the best Spielberg fashion, it's controlled chaos, each frame & each cut designed for maximum effect. It was an audacious project for the young filmmaker, but one that established him as the go-to guy for popcorn entertainment. It endures today as one of his finest works, a marvel of control, sustained tension, & narrative economy. There's not a wasted or gratuitous shot in "Jaws", & it remains classical Hollywood storytelling at its best.
🆒 Most of the film was shot handheld to best countermand the ocean's swell.
Words can hardly describe just how hard our crew has worked this week. Scroll thru these 5 photos to see a completed transformation that would make HGTV proud. The scale and volume of accomplishments this week is mind-boggling. With just 14 days until Plant Sale Grand Opening (!!!), it’s go time.
We run a tight ship, and tend to stick to our schedule, but everyday went late this week. That’s never our goal. When they could see the amount of work still to do, and the success so far, most volunteered to put in a full day on Saturday too - unprompted. That’s why we love our people. How did we get so lucky to find such committed employees? Our customers come first in everything we do and to see our entire team fully embody that is heartwarming.
This greenhouse was 100% empty 4 days ago. It was built a week ago. Weed barrier was installed. And over 200 pallets were placed by HAND in under two hours. Then we moved over 500 flats of herbs (7500 plants) by HAND onto these benches in under two hours the next day. Arranged carefully by annual vs. perennial and from A-Z, this will be the first greenhouse you enter into for Plant Sale 2019!
Today and tomorrow we will tackle the next 50,000+ plants, potting up, arranging, alphabetizing, and tagging. The time behind the scenes is unbelievable. The hope that spring will actually show up is strong. And the excitement from our friends and customers keeps us motivated!
Thank you for your support. For shopping local and organic. We are not a garden center that orders plants in and resells them. We start 98% of our plants from start to finish and nurture them everyday. Our customers deserve the best and this is our guiding truth!
