Thankful to these three badass ladies (among many others) for fighting to protect my mother’s right, my sisters’ rights, my friends’ rights, my daughters’ rights, and my right to reproductive choice. If you’ve looked at my work, it shouldn’t surprise you that I’m liberal, and I will delete and block anyone trying to tell me that women do not deserve autonomy over their own bodies. I volunteered at Planned Parenthood when I was a teenager 23 years ago, so my mind is real made up on this. #stopthebans#ruthbaderginsburg#wendydavistexas#wendydavis#annrichards#dontmesswithtexaswomen
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book is so amazing and so, so necessary. I knew it was hard, but this book really opened my eyes to how much women have to go through in order to enact their right to choose. Please read this!

In 2013 Wendy Davis stood up in Congress for 11 hours and filibustered a house bill that threatened over half of all safe abortion clinics in Texas. When the filibuster was ended with 20 minutes left to cast a vote, thousands of supporters who had traveled to the capital erupted into what would later be dubbed, ‘an unruly mob’, and ran out the clock. Women at the event realized that people needed an event to center their movement around and continue the momentum that the citizen’s filibuster had afforded them. With no background in politics, these women created an outlet for and grew with a movement that has inspired women and pushed boundaries for 6 years. This outlet is known today as the Texas Reproductive Rights Rally.
I am proud of where I came from, and I am proud of what I've been able to achieve through hard work and perseverance. And I guarantee you that anyone who tries to say otherwise hasn't walked a day in my shoes.
Get excited: @bygeorgeaustin is hosting Wendy Davis at their Lamar location on April 13th for a book signing! This is your chance to meet the celebrated politician, activist, and writer as she presents her memoir “Forgetting to Be Afraid.” Link in bio for more info! ⚡️

Democrats had historic gains in Texas in 2018. They're setting their sights on even more in #2020 .
National Democratic groups are signaling they are serious about committing money in #Texas . “It’s one of our top opportunities in the whole country,” said U.S. Rep. #CheriBustos , an Illinois Democrat who chairs the House Democratic campaign arm.

WASHINGTON — The decision former U.S. Rep. #Beto O'Rourke is about to make — whether to run for president, the U.S. Senate or nothing at all in 2020 — will surely reverberate across Texas. But regardless of what O'Rourke does, Democrats are planning a major Texas offensive to target lower-tier races that could could reset the table of Texas politics into the next decade.
Democratic gains from the 2018 midterms have translated in this cycle to higher-quality candidates showing a willingness to consider running for office, and national #Democratic groups are signaling they are serious about committing money toward a continuation of their offensive strikes in Texas into the #2020election . “It’s one of our top opportunities in the whole country,” U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, an Illinois Democrat who chairs the House Democratic campaign arm, recently told The #TexasTribune .
We're so honored to be here for Laurie Halse Anderson's incredible conversation with Wendy Davis tonight at Central Presbyterian Church, followed by an illuminating and thoughtful Q&A with the audience. She talked about her books, especially SPEAK and SHOUT, and her experiences, but also about teaching the next generation about consent, sexuality, and being comfortable in your body and with conversations about what healthy sexual engagement looks and feels like--so that our next generations have the toolbox to navigate this world, and so that the world can change.
These powerful women have inspired us and validated us and reinforced our strength to keep the fight up—thank you so much to everyone who came out tonight!

¡Buenas tardes!
¡Felices lecturas!
All hail @lizclimo please grant me permission to share the image you created and explain why I share it. To me, this is #feminism . Sometimes it is hard to be a #feminist in my state and believe in #equality but we can't back down. When someone calls you a bitch, or a thot, hit them back with wisdom sprinkled with a few choice words of your own. Because you aren't any of those things. You are a shark. Now go eat stuff. #wendydavis@wendydavistexas#rungirlrun

Wendy Davis lost her challenge to Texas Governor Greg Abbott in 2014, but she might not yet be done running for office. During her appearance on the National Podcast of Texas, Davis told Andy Langer she is considering a run against Senator John Cornyn in 2020 if Rep. Joaquín Castro does not seek the seat. Listen to the conversation about the state of Texas politics, the upcoming Sandra Bullock film based on her 2013 filibuster, and more at the link in our bio or wherever you listen to podcasts. We kept hearing that we needed to visit the Capitol while we were in Texas. Umm... I’m a history nerd but really? The Capitol? You guys... it was so fun!
First we walked up on an amazing day of action and demonstration by @jolttexas What an awesome organization. Always great to see students raise their voices! Then we were blown away when WENDY DAVIS came out to speak! What???? You may remember when the former state senator filibustered for 13 hours to block restrictive abortion regulations in Texas. She was just as inspiring on the steps of the Capitol, advocating for equal access to education.
Then we took in the monuments, the grounds and the kid friendly exhibits in the visitors center. Pretty solid afternoon! #travelfamily#rvlife#fulltimervfamily#roadschooling#unschooling#history#historylesson#democracyinaction#jolttexas#wendydavis#texascapitol#austin#texas#dressup#freefun

Last November they launched Movement Mujeres as the joint venture of Davis’ nonprofit Deeds Not Words, which inspires young women to be changemakers, and Jolt Initiative, the political arm of Jolt. The fellowship wants to disrupt the so-called ‘Good Old Boys Club’ that has shaped Texas government, policy and nonprofit sectors in favor of leadership that looks like the state it represents and fights for the causes its constituents most care about.
#MyCatherineBellStory - Army Wives. It was one Friday night when I decided to once again ‘succumb to my addiction’ - aka Catherine Bell. I settled down around 7:00pm and played AW: A Tribe Is Born and the moment I finished the pilot episode, I knew I will be hooked! True to that feeling, the next time I glanced at the clock, it was already 4:00 in the morning! Its well-crafted storylines, superb soundtrack, first-rate and on-point acting will just suck you in! Each story arcs were perfectly given to the actors/actresses who can best deliver the plot, and that’s what made this show spectacular and worthy of that bags under my eyes!
behind the scenes at the saint cecilia, helping my girl narro photograph the incredible wendy davis- such a lovely powerhouse of a strong texas woman!

#LoveIs —- I thought I was triggered by last week’s episode. But, the season finale gave me flashbacks. 😰
Let’s unpack last week’s episode, first. When Nuri jumped out of the bed and away from Yasir, I knew exactly what she was feeling. As a woman who has been sexually abused by a former teacher and molested by the man who was supposed to protect me, I know her pain. And thankfully, like Nuri, the men in my life that I’ve dated never used that against me. Instead, they listened to me and empathized with me. Nuri talked about not letting her past dictate her future and I do exactly the same. Some days are much easier than others. But, we (sexual abuse victims) get through it. 🙋🏾
I feel like it’s safe to say every woman has dated a Derrick. Therefore, we’ve all been hurt by his kind. It always amazes how men feel so comfortable coming back to the person they hurt or didn’t value in the first place. The fact that it took another man loving Nuri the way she deserved for him to get his s***t (excused my French) together is absurd. And what’s even more appalling is that men see nothing wrong with trying to break up a happy home. Why? They had their chance and blew it and yet still feel entitled for round two, three & four. When does it end? 🤷🏾♀️
And Ruby... How many times have you prepared the man you’re dating for the next woman to come along and reap all the benefits? It’s no constellation prize for a married or single man to tell you, it should’ve been you. I felt like you were the one. It’s hurting and upsetting all in one. 🤦🏾♀️
So, let’s have a conversation. For those of you who watched #OWN ’s ‘Love Is___’, what did you like about the show? Dislike? Did you find yourself relating to any of the characters? If so, why? I told you my story. Now, I want to hear yours. 🙇🏾♀️
P.S. Thank you, Mara Brock and Salim Akil for giving us another show that we can relate to. I’ve been a fan of yours for as long as I can remember. I look forward to seeing how season two unfolds after that bombshell twist. #OprahWinfrey#Love#MaraBrockAkil#SalimAkil#Nuri#Yasir#Ruby#MicheleWeaver#WilliamCatlett#ClarkePeters#WendyDavis#YoothaWongLoiSing#BlackLove
