Situated within the campus of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva along with the sculptures of multiple Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
Banaras Hindu University is hence home to one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city of Varanasi, the grand New Vishwanath Temple. Visiting this temple gives the worshipper the space to put himself in the hands of God, at his disposition, and listen to the voice in his heart.
My last day in Varanasi included walking through the main city, getting lost as I looked for Vishwanath Temple (photos not allowed). From my guidebook: “Once inside, things can be quite intense, with people pushing and tripping over each other for a chance to give an offering and touch the lingam (phallic symbol of Shiva), which absolves one of all sins.” I ended up making a local friend, Kashi, who ended up escorting me to the temple as he said, I wasn’t really in Varanasi if I didn’t experience it. It was so incredible, built of marble, long lines (as a tourist I didn’t have to wait though), monkeys, craziness, and yes, I touched the shiva lingam. 😇 Followed by having the famous lassi at Blue Lassi. Later, Kashi and his friend taught me how to make authentic chai. In the evening I got to experience the evening ganga aarti (river worship) ceremony with puja (prayers), fire and dance. I ended the evening with the authentic music at the rooftop of my hotel. The following day Kashi took me and my girlfriend, Yasmin, whom I met at the ashram, to Sarnath where Buddha gave his first speech. The town of Sarnath was really cute and had lots of temples too. Check out the video of traffic and yes, we rode a motorcycle 😳 #incredibleindia#sarnath#vishwanathtemple#india#varanasi

For those having no time or not able to stand in long queues for entering the Kashi Vishwanath temple to offer prayer, the temple administration has introduced the facility of purchasing online tickets of Rs 300 each for a quick entry from the reserve gate of the temple. #vishwanathtemple#pray#lordshiva 🙏 #aarti
Banaras Hindu University is one of the oldest campuses in India. We decided to give it a visit on our last day in Banaras. BHU was established in 1916 by Madan Mohan Malaviya and Annie Besant. BHU's main campus is spread over 1300 acres was built on land donated by Kashi Naresh, the hereditary ruler of Banaras.
In picture you can see Shree Vishwanath Mandir, located in BHU campus dedicated to Lord Shiva. It's a replica of old Kasi Vishwanath temple located near banks of Ganga. The original Kashi Vishwanath temple was destroyed and reconstructed several times.
