The oceanside trail + views for today. That’s the US (Olympic National Park in Washington) in the distance! So wild. I used to hate hiking and walking, but now it’s my absolute favorite way of getting around. Any day with 22,000 steps or over, is a day well spent ✔️
the moment right before you take a big leap, is the scariest
when you push off against the ground and then have to find it in you to jump forward and let your feet come off the ground
to, for just a few seconds, completely and fully trust that if you do that,
if you launch yourself up into the sky,
you will find land again on the other side
that you won’t crash and burn
that you won’t fall on your face
while fingers point at you and the “i told you so’s” echo all around you
and when you’re up there in the sky
your stomach turns
everything goes blank
and then, there it is
your feet find ground
just like that
you’re there, you made it
and you open your eyes to see
that the grass is green
and soft beneath your soles
and your eyes, they see
how foolish it was of you to ever doubt
that gut feeling that made you jump in the first place
Island gal loving her new surroundings

#bronze#spindel#whorl in #victoriabritishcolumbia by Butch Dick. From the city’s brochure: “Established in 2008, the Signs of Lekwungen (pronounced Le-KWUNG-en) is an interpretive walkway along the Inner Harbour and surrounding areas that honours the art, history and culture of the Coast Salish people who have resided in the Victoria area for hundreds of years.
The Songhees and Esquimalt Nations are part of the Coast Salish family and are descendants of the Lekwungen family groups. Lekwungen is the original language of this land.
The Signs of Lekwungen consist of seven unique site markers – bronze castings of original cedar carvings, conceptualized and carved by Coast Salish artist, Butch Dick. The markers depict spindle whorls that were traditionally used by Coast Salish women to spin wool. The spindle whorl was considered the foundation of a Coast Salish family

Bigg’s killer whales were sighted for the second time within two weeks swimming in the Inner Harbour of Victoria, B.C.! It is extremely rare to see killer whales this close inshore, but it is possible these mammal eaters were visiting the harbor to snack on the harbor seals that linger around the area.
