Look who is off leash, muzzle free and happy as a clam!
Tucker has been a poster boy for our socialization program but we still have plenty of work to do with a little less than 2 weeks left in his Board & Train program.
He is still very uncomfortable with new people touching him, some of which he needs to learn to tolerate such as nail trims and vet visits. We also have some work to do with household matters when it comes to vacuums and loud noises that stress him out. I’m excited to see how this boy progresses over the next couple of weeks.
I would like to give some clarification when it comes to strangers touching your dog. Our dogs need to learn tolerance, trust and acceptance of scenarios like visiting the vet and grooming visit but when it comes to strangers who feel that it’s acceptable to simply approach your dog, it is equally important that we are the dogs greatest advocate and interfere when their body language tells us they are uncomfortable. You wouldn’t force your friend to greet a stranger, so we should give our dogs the same courtesy.
Tucker was a rockstar at @ronahomestore today...after he has the worlds longest pee on the floor 🙈 🤣 thankfully the staff were super understanding.
He had great leash manners and he has several positive interactions with strangers.
He did get uncomfortable with one person but that person’s interactions with Tucker were a little too friendly. It was a good reminder that all people should be respectful of new dogs and their space, allowing the dogs to make advances for affection instead of assuming they want it. Just as people have different levels of comfort around new people, dogs are the same way and some require more time to feel comfortable than others.

That looks like a happy tail to me! Tucker is earning some privileges inside the house and I think he’s pretty happy about it.
Dogs with social anxiety typically struggle far more inside a house then they do outside because of the confinement and lack of escape routes.
While I got some work done last night, Tucker was on place where he is confined to the boundaries of the blueboard. He already knows the place command and has practised in multiple obedience settings, but now he is learning that when he is on it, he must ignore the other dogs and mind his own business. This is the first step in integrating him into the pack of boarding dogs and also how we will be integrating him back into his home with his new housemate Bailey. Before he earns some freedoms in the house, he must learn to respect others and their space. He did so well last night, he might be roaming with the dogs by the end of the weekend!
Handsome Samson is making great improvements with his reactivity to both dogs and people.
Typically, he lunges and barks at any dog and with people approaching him so we had a lot of work to do.
Last week, we had him pack walking in our social field with the boarding dogs and were so pleased with him that we decided to extend his session and go on an outing to Rona to do some work around people. He was on his best behaviour! He was keen to observe his surroundings and the passing people but he did a fabulous job of managing his emotions and remained calm the whole time. #handsomesamson#wheatonterrier#germanshepherd#ronadog#dogsofvernon#vernondogtraining#dogtraining#aggressivedogrehab
Thank you @ronahomestore for being dog friendly so that we can get out and socialize!

Meet Garlic, brother to French Fry. Fry has completed the obedience portion of his training and now its Garlic’s turn. Garlic is the trouble maker of the brothers so we will be doing a lot of behaviour training to help him learn to manage his emotions and make good choices in stressful situations. Isn’t he cute!?😍
Meet Cub, the adorable Papillon X Pomeranian with a mind of his own. He has a mind of his own and some insecurities along with it but with plenty of positive reinforcement and guidance, we will get him going in the right direction. He was too scared of the Place board today so we didn’t push it and focused on other activities. But when we reintroduce it next week, we will show you his progress! #puppiesofinstagram#dogsofinstagram#papillon#pomeranian#vernondogtraining
💕Having a special moment💕
Normally jumping up is not ok but this was a bit of an exception.
While out and about working on Cody’s training, I suddenly interrupted our boring walk to do some environmental agility, jumping up on rocks, crawling under fences, jumping over rails. He was so over the moon with happiness that he just about crawled into my arms like a big baby.
Note* he never jumps on me or gets pushy with my space. This was not about him getting in my space and taking control, this was about a connection between him and I.
Dogs putting their paws on you or climbing on you should not be allowed or watched very closely as it’s usually not a good thing
Looks like I am dancing with the dogs 😂
We begin everyday with a brief leash walk and the dogs need to settle in before gaining off leash freedom.
There was absolutely zero pulling from the group of 10 so I dropped all the leashes and they just continued on beside me 😍 not all of our shadows were tall enough to make it into the picture haha.
Miss Luna is a true #germanshorthairedpointer. She loves to have something in her mouth all the time, which has caused some problematic behaviours of inappropriate chewing and taking things she shouldn't. While she is with us for a #boardandtrain, she is learning what she can and can't have in her mouth.
She is over the moon that she is allowed to have this stick. So much so that she has been carrying it for the last 45 minutes ❤️

Starting the day off with the right paw forward. One of the goals we've been working towards is a calm start to the day. We've mastered the group down out of the truck, but the release still brings about more excitement than we'd like to see so the next step is adding a group leash walk for the first 5 minutes. This helps to get everyone moving together and under control. It also helps with our leadership, showing the dogs that we are worthy of their trust. Yes, I said it!! Just as they have have to earn our trust, we have to earn theirs too. #takeahike#dogadventures earning #offleash#packhike#vernondogtraining
This picture isn't exactly exciting but it sure is meaningful!
From yesterday's temper tantrums and hissy fits over being crated to voluntarily going in after a #trainingsession, I'd say Lacey the #blacklab has made a huge turnaround!
Sassy pants Lacey has been through our #puppytraining but needed a refresher in her teenage stage. She is doing a #boardandtrain for the weekend and is making huge improvements! Videos to be posted on our Facebook page!

Cody was recently rehomed as he was too much dog for his elderly people. He came with no manners, no obedience and no recall. It's a good thing he has a golden personality!
His new people are already on the right path to a great relationship with a great dog.
Starting training early is key for setting your dog up for success. Instead of allowing bad habits and behaviours to form, Cody's new family dove right into #rewardbasedtraining to build his confidence and set him on the right path. We can't wait to see this guy blossom into a well mannered dog!
Look at this crazy girl!
Justice came to us with bad #separationanxiety and was very high strung. We took her with us to the #nelsonhodges seminar to get a better understanding of her issues and we found a sweet, fun and sensitive girl buried underneath her anxiety.
She has progressed extremely quickly thanks to relationship based behaviour modification techniques. What does that mean? Essentially, she needed a leader! She needed direction and assistance navigating this crazy world us humans have created. Through strong and fair #leadership (not dominance), Justice has truly blossomed this week and she just wanted to show you how happy she is!
