Saturday is the 25th anniversary of National Public Lands Day and the 2nd Virginia Public Lands Day.
All of our parks are offering special programs and volunteer events on Saturday in celebration of public lands. It will be a “fee free” day with all parking fees waived.

Each year the Breaks Interstate Park facilitates many unique educational opportunities for local students and visitors. Today, we wrapped up our 2018 Bio-Blitz, which paired high school and middle school students from Buchanan and Dickenson counties with biologists from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation from Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC), in completing classroom and field sessions. The students learned valuable information about the flora and fauna of our area, and the park gained additional documentation of the species present here. We may have even started a budding biologist on the pathway to his or her future career! This event was made possible with financial assistance from a generous local foundation. Thank you!
Coming toe to toe with a "wild" pony colt at Grayson Highlands. I was respecting the park rules by refraining from petting or feeding. But this friendly boy insisted on coming & nibbling me as I took his picture. #vastateparks#wildponies
Get ready for the park's music event of the year! Our second annual Russell Fork Bluegrass Show is only two months away! You'll spend an entire evening with host Dave Adkins and featured artists Ralph Stanley II and Blue Highway. It'll be a night of great food in our restaurant and hours of music that'll have you singing and dancing along! Seats were sold out at last year's show so make sure you get your ticket today. The Russell Fork Bluegrass Show will be held in our Conference Center on Saturday, November 10 at 7 pm. We have two packages available for this event that include lodging, buffets, and tickets to the show or you can purchase tickets by themselves for $20 each. We hope you join us that evening to share this new musical tradition and come support some of your favorite music groups! For inquiries about the lodging packages or to purchase your ticket to the show, please call our business office at (276) 865-4413 ext. 3206. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, Breaks family!
