On Thursday we made the spontaneous decision to drive from Colorado to Montana and look at a house we’d found online. That afternoon we met with a realtor, looked at two properties, got a pre-approval from the bank, and by the next morning we were making an offer on a home that we knew would take us years to fix up. Maybe it was a bit rushed, and maybe even irrational, but after six months of constant travel the idea of being in one place was sounding too good.
We spent the day with friends and wandered about town while optimistically chatting about all the improvement projects we were going to do and the cute neighbors we would have and the beautiful story this giant step would create. It all felt so perfect and settled.
At the end of the day we ultimately lost out to a cash offer and I was left feeling pretty heartbroken. I’d already begun stress-planning my winter around the insane amount of work that would go into our new “home” but still was caught off guard by just how disappointed I was to not have this dilapidated house to call my own.
You see, I love this life of wandering that I live, but there are times when routine and familiarity and community pull at my heart. There are nights when we sleep on real beds and play card games with friends followed by mornings when I don’t want to get back in the van and do more driving.
And then, I look back on moments like this one; chasing sunrise across a desert in our little mobile home-soaking in the spontaneity and freedom and beauty of a life on the road. I’m instantly reminded of the fickleness of my heart..
I believe in the universe pointing us in the right direction. If we were meant to have the house, we’d have it, and we’d happily settle into a routine in Missoula for the time being. But as we roll along today toward the west coast and our vanlife community for @descendonbend I’m a bit relieved to have a little more carefree wandering in my future before I find my place to settle.

🇬🇧The last couple of weeks I spent with my beloved and what lovely time it was! Last night we talked about our highlights from last month and there were so many good memories ... some made us love, some dream, some swoon and some become silent. One thing they all had in common: With the right person by your side every moment can become a highlight ❤️
Now, Viktor is back on his way to his dear bike Albert which is waiting in Serbia. I’m still in Slovenia, working, and will decide next week where to next. Until then I cuddle with Cosmo and look through pictures ❤️
Who is creating highlights in your everyday life?
We’ve hit a lot of bumps with our electrical system this week. Felt really discouraged and overwhelmed. So we asked ourselves: What could we realistically get done so we could keep pushing forward? We could...run wires behind the wall frames so that we can insulate and put up the walls. So we did that.
The countdown to @descendonbend is on! Only a few more days before we’re rolling around in the dust with a bunch of fellow van lifers/lovers. We can’t wait to share some songs with y’all and soak in some extra joy as I turn one year older on Saturday night. Who will be there to celebrate with us?
P.s. We are stoked to be rolling in with Ruby this year, but if you are in need of a dope van like this beauty I borrowed last year, give @bendwesty a shout!
This morning we woke early to catch sunrise over Maroon Bells in Colorado (it was magnificent), then drove all day and caught the last bit of light over the ever-inspiring Tetons. These Mountain views might compliment Ruby better than almost anything.
* Recap' du Chantier *
Seattle, WA📍 07.13.18
- We had about 6hrs to explore a little slice of Seattle so we decided to head to the pier and check out some ocean views. They treated us pretty well. 🌅 We got to explore a lot in the small amount of time we had, which was prime. We hit up the @seattlegreatwheel for some more picturesque scenes. Had so much fun!

For the last three months, Joey and I have spent all of our spare time converting our Sprinter van into a tiny home on wheels. We started with an empty shell, and turned it into a space that actually feels like home. We can’t wait to hit the road and share everything along the way🚐🤙🏻

My most popular song on Spotify is one called ‘Sunscreen’. I wrote it a few summers back after I ended up with the worst sunburn of my life. It was rough..
Last week we learned that Lee is even more susceptible to sunburn than I am. After a little desert life, he’s seen here blending in with the color of Ruby.😂
We went through several bottles of aloe and lotion while trying to salvage his poor skin, and also invested in three new bottles of sunscreen. Summer isn’t over yet folks, lather up!

🍃Turning Aspen's slowly spreading golden fire across the mountain side🔥Quaking Aspens are technically the largest organism on Earth. The many trees you see in one grove are connected through their roots, genetically the forest is one organism. Read more about this beautiful spot in Colorado on my blog on My

Here's the first time I was able to see all the way through the van. The demo part is one of the most straightforward tasks we had so far. It felt so good to see the nasty mat, shelves and bulkhead come out.

We’ve been flying around the country this last week or two and both of us are feeling pretty homesick for sweet Ruby. I reunited with her yesterday for a brief stay and then dropped her with our good friends @gowestycampers to have some expert eyes look things over while we jet up to Montana for a wedding this weekend. It’s good to know she’s in good hands while we’re away!
