This photo was very spontaneous, I didn't even know the girls were taking pictures at that time... But with this picture I could see how happy I really was on this trip, I realized how perfect God's things are, I just have to thank God for everything!
Thinking about applying for PhD programs?
How would you feel about spending many weeknights and weekends working on research? Possibly in a library or lab away from family and friends? Does that prospect excite you?
Are you so curious about a particular topic or issue that you’re more than willing to dedicate many a weeknight and weekend to learning about it?
If so, you’ll likely enjoy PhD studies. Of course, it won’t require working every single night and weekend, but strong amounts of dedication are needed.
If you’re a ”Curious George“ like me, spending time intensely learning in a library is an exciting way to spend an evening. When I scroll through Instagram and see friends enjoying themselves at restaurants, bars, musicals, sporting events, and spending time with family... while there’s a part of me that wishes I could also be doing these things right now, I’m genuinely excited to be doing what I’m doing tonight.
I don’t have to be here. I get to be here. And I’ll leave it at that.
"A student is just a number." News of a recent suicide at the Bahen Center at the University of Toronto St. George Campus sparked protests about the University's lack of mental health resources.
People who were not involved in the protests took to social media to voice their opinions about the suicide and access to mental health resources.
This week, one of our team members wrote a blog on the suicide and some of the underlying causes of suicide. Read the following blog:

🌟 I am a PhD candidate with a defense date in the next week (!!!!!😱). My scientific research uses biochemistry and molecular biology to study proteins. Many people ask me❔ why❓ I chose this field and to be honest, i simply loved to learn about this type of science as an undergraduate student. I was fortunate to have an amazing professor who explained the concepts with such clarity and passion that I wanted one day to be like her – an ambassador for science!⠀
So off I went to graduate school, with a desire to learn more about these fascinating molecules called proteins and the hope that one day, I could be just like my professor.⠀
She inspired me, by being a role model and someone I could see myself in. Through this 3-yr biochemistry course, a new avenue arose that I never saw possible before. From her, I learned that the power that comes from simply being who you are and sharing what you love is infinite. ⠀
That is why I am so excited to promote opportunities for more young girls to gain access to role models and invaluable skill-building workshops through a Microsoft program called #DigiGirlz ! It’s an initiative giving middle and high school girls the chance to attend workshops and learn about careers in STEM! I know the power of role models and I am so excited to be aligned with @MicrosoftCanada, a company that is listening to women and enabling young girls to not only see themselves in the future of science and technology, but also support women in their careers in STEM.⠀
So many of you have had role models and ARE role models. Share your story below to dispel gender-based stereotypes, empower one another and change the future of science (obviously)!
