After getting lost a few times (I'm usually good with directions; I'm not sure why Taipei is challenging me 🤣), I wasn't confident to go to Jiufen alone because I would have to take a bus going outside Taipei. So last night, on an impulse, I booked a Yehliu - Shifen - Jiufen tour on KKDay. Best decision ever.
I got a bit lost again this morning in Taipei Main Station and had a not-so-amazing race to the meeting place. 😅 But I made it on time and made a new friend, Rebecca from Singapore, who's also a solo traveler.
Yehliu Geopark was more beautiful than I expected. Shifen Old Street was smaller than I expected, and so was the Shifen Waterfalls. Jiufen Old Street was wayyy more crowded than I ever imagined. I wish we had more time to explore Yehliu and Shifen, and I wish it wasn't raining, but overall, I liked the tour because it lets you see these tourist attractions in the most time-efficient and most hassle-free way. Plus, our tour guide, Amy, was so entertaining.
My favorite part of this impulse decision though was meeting Rebecca. I got to try more food because we could share, and because she speaks Mandarin, I had an instant translator! She's also a Christian and overall a very nice person and we had so much to talk about. She reminded me why I love traveling -- you get these opportunities to not just see and try new things but also meet new people and hopefully get to know yourself more through these experiences. So even if I didn't get a decent photo on Jiufen's famous staircase, joining this tour was totally worth it. ❤
Umaraw na!!! 🌞
The weather was kinder today. It was sunny but chilly and windy in Yangmingshan so the walk was nice. Sarap lang mag emote emote sa kagubatan 😂 I was told Yangmingshan is best visited during spring but it's still beautiful now, just don't expect to find flowers. Panay green lang with very minimal foliage. 🌳🌲🍁 Next stop was Xinbeitou. Once you get off the MRT Xinbeitou station, it's like you're transported into this quiet countryside resort town. Points of interest are within walking distance (the red-bricked Beitou Hot Spring Museum, the wooden Public Library, and the wooden Xinbeitou Historic Station) but the main destination everyone visits is the Thermal Valley. The smell of sulfur was not as pungent as I expected and the steam was surprisingly refreshing, though I believe it's not the same during summer. ♨️ The best part: Yangmingshan and Xinbeitou are both within Taipei 😯🇹🇼
Was scolding myself yesterday for not being more prepared for this trip. I only had a mental wishlist, no itinerary like the ones I had in my previous trips where I had my schedules and transportation plans laid out. Well, it looks like I would have been more disappointed if I had a well-planned itinerary... because the rains will eventually ruin it!
I woke up, planning to go to Yangmingshan. But since the weather wasn't cooperating, I opted to just go to Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (ang laki pala talaga!), followed by an artsy time at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. Spent my afternoon walking along (and eating whenever possible) Tamsui Old Street and the waterfront. My feet are ready to part from the rest of my body and I'm regretting bringing only one jacket. Pero sabi nga ni Queen Elsa, the cold never bothered me anyway. 🇹🇼
Time to cultivate inner stillness in the middle of outer chaos. Today I choose to live in stillness.

Nothing but gratitude for my family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who sent me heartwarming messages. Thank you! 😘 Here's a gloomy photo of Taipei 101 for all of you. (Umaambon, malamig, at ilang beses akong naligaw, but seeing Taipei 101 reminded me na bawal ako magreklamo. Hehe)
Above all, I am truly in awe of God's faithfulness and grace. Thank You, Lord, for Your steadfast love and unceasing mercy. ❤

Simply enjoy life and the great pleasure that comes with it.
when life requires us to jump, we jump... or else, mababash tayo ng mga kasunod natin sa pila dahil aakyat-akyat tayo sa diving board pero di naman pala tayo tatalon. Kailangan makita nilang brave, strong & independent woman ako. HAHAHAHA!
One of the things that amazed me when I visited Seoul months ago was how this city has done a great job at preserving history despite steadily embracing modernity in the past decades. Stopping by its historical sites is not just good for the gram but also gives one a deeper appreciation of the culture of this mega city. 🇰🇷 My latest blog post features the charming neighborhood of Samcheongdong (home to plenty of kdrama locations), Bukchon Hanok Village, Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the tiny surprises we found in between. Go ahead and read on bit.ly/OldSeoul 😊

Know that you too also need to rest to let new dreams and new life grow under your bark. And then, one day soon you will be ready to bloom again. Stronger than ever before.
