Horseshoe Bend name was inspired by its unusual shape, a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located four miles southwest of Page, AZ, within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Just a hop, skip, and a jump from Glen Canyon Dam and the popular Lake Powell, the best view is from the steep cliff above Horseshoe Bend. Horseshoe Bend’s rock walls have a variety of minerals, including hematite, platinum, and garnet. Perspective. It's something I think about a lot. I like pictures that make me feel tiny and even better are places that make me feel tiny! Though we may be small, we should never down play our potential for major impacts in the life of an animal, the life of a friend, or a stranger, a company, city, state, or even country! I want you to take a second to think about the people around you who you see being positively impactful people in the world and wonder what really makes them so different from you? PS A little more than a year ago @crittnichole planned an incredible trip where we went to find some crazy awesome arches in the middle of nowhere and she actually let me tag along despite only knowing me in person for a few days. On a clear night with a sky overflowing with stars I asked her to be my girlfriend under those arches, so it was only fitting for me to plan a surprise trip to go see some more remote arches for the anniversary of that night! Thanks for making all the best kind of impacts on my life babe!

One of the things I was most looking forward to in going to Peru was getting ALL the alpaca things 🦙 ! I couldn't wait to browse the markets in Cusco and purchase sweaters, scarves 🧣, mittens🧤, hats (seriously, you name it, I wanted the alpaca version of it). What I soon came to learn was that it's really hard to find real, local alpaca goods in those markets. The further you go from the manufacturer, the more "diluted" the wool gets. . . I started to get discouraged, thinking I wouldn't find any authentic alpaca goods, and I would come home empty-handed. However, our tour of the Sacred Valley ended with a visit to a home that produces alpaca goods, from shearing the wool, all the way through to the finished product. They gave us a demonstration of how they dye the wool using natural products (like crushed 🐛 !), and then we were left to browse. I was happy as could be! I'm so thankful that we were given this opportunity, and that we were able to support local handicrafts while we were in Peru. . . What's your favorite type of souvenir? Day 278: Provedencia Uno, Comuna Trece, Medellin. Murder capital of the world. . . ----------------------------------------------------------- At one point in time the most dangerous area, of the most dangerous district in the most dangerous city in the world. In the not too distant past the people of Comuna 13 witnessed over 4,000 homicides a year, just in this one small area of Medellin. Today it is one of the world's finest examples of artistic and social enterprise. Comuna 13 has been transformed by local artists, and is now more famous for its art murals representing the struggles of the Colombian conflict. It's hard to avoid the topic amongst travellers of Pablo Escobar, for a country with so much else to offer some tourists still seem to become obsessed with this man who ripped apart a nation, and as such, are unable to see the Colombia of today. The country is divided between those who want to move on and forget, and those who believe that a country who forgets their history is condemned to repeat it. There is almost no evidence of their brutal recent history. Even on the faces of the people, there are only smiles. What really strikes me about this nation is the joy and the constant celebration, if you knew any better you'd think they were free of the pains of the past but in fact it is this pain that drives them to be happy, to celebrate every win, every moment of pleasure. Day 277: Think you're a football fanatic? You ain't seen nothing sunshine. . . ----------------------------------------------------------- The Atletico Nacional fans are bat shit. Tbf it was the first football match I've EVER been to so I don't have much of a comparison, but if all games were this mental I'd be there on the reg. I probably spent 12mins watching the game and the rest in awe at the fans, not sure Tottenham had the same dance or die sort of vibe. We left the game a few mins early to try and avoid, the relatively intimidating, fanatics but it seemed most people had the same idea as hundreds came sprinting past us. We swiftly decided to avoid the tube and get a taxi. Score. Pun intended. I imagine an apocalypse would be tamer. We spent the day people watching, witnessed some serious picnicing skills at the botanical garden. There was barely a spare spot of grass to rest with all the families loving life in the sun. The Colombians really don't hold back on the PDA, which I for one appreciate. Socially appropriate Chris Corfield Cuddles night and day, I think we all agree that's a big old YES please. Day 276: Hit the road Jack. . . ----------------------------------------------------------- We got to ride shotgun from Salento to Medellin, which sounds fun, but when you stop every 800m and wait at traffic lights for 10 mins at a time it would have felt less torturous not being able to see the road ahead. But we made it, safe and sound and only 2 or 3 hours behind schedule. We booked an 8am bus so we could get to Medellin in time to watch Atheltico Nacional go toe to toe with a league rival that very evening. After checking in and working out the route to the stadium, our friendly hostel owner asked "What game's on tonight?". Taken aback, I replied "Atheltico Nacional, it's a league game I think" mildly incredulous that he didn't know. "Oh that game" he said, "Yeah that one" my reply. "That's tomorrow". Ah bugger. One day I will learn to read the details properly. We used our time to book our internal flights - when a 20+ hour bus ride is £20 I'm happy paying double for a 90 minute flight, even on our budget - then went to the supermarket. After filling our basket with items to make a Bolognese we realised it was going to cost more than going out, so we put everything back and went out for pasta instead. Saved money and time on washing up. Cash back. C ----------------------------------------------------------- . .
