I absolutely love our lives together 🌎 Sometimes I forget to stop and think about how fun, exciting and amazing our lives have been these past few years. People spend a lifetime wishing and dreaming they could explore the world like this, but we’re lucky enough to actually do it. I can’t wait to keep exploring with you ✨
Love of my life, Mr. Smith. The best love you’ll ever get is from a pet. I wish I knew this 8 years ago when I packed up the SUV to it’s fullest and drove West on I10 to Los Angeles. No family. No job. No friends. Just an amazing apartment on Hollywood Blvd. with no furniture, but I had a pool and the possibilities were endless.
Loneliness is real. And if I knew how much love and comfort I could have had with a pet. I would have scooped one up immediately. I was desperate to connect with anyone. No longer forced by college life to meet people. :
Fear is real. Not finding a job for a year took its toll on me. I had never not had the power to take care of myself. After living through that, I vowed to never be without financial stability again. The random work I could find was interesting to say the least. I went from seeing inside the homes of the rich and famous to sitting in the audience for daytime television.
Now I’m a workaholic. I’m also realizing it’s just not that satisfying to work like I have and now that I’ve been stable for 7 years I’m working on letting the work go and giving me what I want.
We’ve been exploring Margaret River and all it’s surrounding areas for 5 weeks now! It’s a stunning place! Epic surf, awesome food, local produce and a delicious wine culture. While we still have so much to see and explore, it’s already ranking high on the list of possible relocation destinations 🥰 We’ve made friends and explored high and low! It’s been exactly what we said we wanted to do- not rush this trip in anyway and just cruise along!
On May 1st we start our next leg up towards Exmouth. Stopping here and there we will make it to the tiny oasis town and stay for a nice amount of time. Diaz might jump in and join the local school and either Zak or I will get some work.
I’m LOVING this journey of travel in our little movable home. At times it’s tough as! But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been one of the best things we’ve ever done! @moving_with_the_tide
When we first set out on our trip, Diaz was bored SHITLESS. I surely thought that she’d spontaneously combust crossing the Nullaboar. One more hour in the car and POOF- Diaz would seise to exist... She’s actually been one of the biggest challenges of this experience.
Not the setting up or packing down of a camper trailer, not living to a tight budget, not the fear of the unknown or what each new town will bring. Not the 2 year old or the 4 year old...None of it has been as hard as navigating through her slow death by boredom. ‘But Muuuuuum I’m SO bored. This is boring we went to a beach yesterday and the day before. I don’t want to go on ANOTHER hike my feet hurt. Why are we still driving? What are we doing today? Urgh I do NOT want to do that. This town looks like the other one.’ 🤦🏽♀️
Diaz has come from school which is insanely entertaining to a trip where she needs to, wait for it, ENTERTAIN HERSELF SOMETIMES.
Yell at parents.
It’s all good, she can have big emotions. We can handle it and we can help her. But when it comes to yelling at us to entertain her... think again squid.
You know what, being bored is super important for kids to experience. How else will the imagination of a child learn to grow and thrive if Mum and Dad fill every moment with something to pacify and entertain? She’ll come out of it ok, she’s already changing and complains marginally less...
I’m hoping for a more centred and independent little girl to emerge, Zak just wants her to stop whinging😉😂 But all jokes aside, this will have a positive effect even if it’s challenging now. @moving_with_the_tide 📷: @driftwood_weddings
The enchantingly magical Karri forest located just out of Margaret River. Locals we know have dubbed it ‘The Prettiest S Bend in Australia’. Breathtaking stuff. Zak took this photo, we showed the girls and they went troppo because of the little elf shaped man in the bottom of the shot. I live for the moments when I see the world of magic and make believe come alive through them. @moving_with_the_tide

Feeling so refreshed and relaxed lately 🤗Staying at a Buddhist Monastery really showed us the value of slowing life down and appreciating the present moment. Living and working in NY, we were always so caught up in our careers and hectic schedules. Even now, living life on the move and out of a suitcase, we sometimes forget to take a moment for ourselves. Now though, we feel like we have the tools to calm the mind and appreciate the moment. Try and find some time today to close your eyes and just breathe! It's amazing what 5 minutes of mindfulness can do.
Making the decision to leave our careers in NY to explore the world was an exciting yet intimidating decision. But knowing you have someone by your side who constantly supports you and encourages your crazy ideas makes it a whole lot easier. Cheers to 6 months of epic adventures abroad 👏
Happy 25th birthday to this beautiful girl right here!! Cristina has been the inspiration, brains and logistics since we set out on this incredible adventure. I wouldn’t have had the most amazing year of my life if it weren’t for her and her crazy ideas ✨ She is truly the magic behind it all and I’m so lucky to be along for the ride.
In this past year, we’ve quit our jobs to teach in Thailand, motorbiked through Vietnam and surfed our way through Bali. We’ve done more in this past year than most people can dream of in a lifetime. But something tells me that 25 has even more in store for us. So here’s to you and another year of the good life 🍻
