*Seeking little antidotal advice here*. Over the holidays, my long-haired dachshund (Jaida) lost her vision overnight 💔. I took her to the vet, and subsequently had two follow up visits for rechecks. She has glaucoma in both eyes, and anterior lens luxation in her right eye. I have drops that help reduce the intraocular pressure, and and a steroidal salve. Anyway, the advise that I’m actually seeking is how best to deal with a blind dog, as it’s my first. I’ve learned from this that she can not actually hear that well either. When I call out to her, she tends to turn her head in a completely different direction. I just returned today from visiting my parents, so she has to reacclimate to my house and has not been here since she lost her vision.
Has anyone had an older dog that lost its vision, and if so, how well do they adapt? She turns 14 this month, so she’s no spring chicken. The most useful thing I’ve read so far, is using different essential oil‘s (those identified safe for dogs, of course) around the house so they could identify where they are based on scent.
