Open your curtains... What's the first thing you see? Comment below! (I see a squirrel gawping at me with a mouthful of nuts) Wish I had this view of a proper "Sand Castle" captured by @the_running_photographer of the ancient St. Catherine's Island in Tenby, Wales. Around the time of the battle of Hastings in 1066 it is recorded that a small fort occupied castle hill. It it thought that sometime later St Catherine’s Island was established as a place of Christian worship by the creation of a small chapel. A perfect, peaceful place to recharge ones soul. Well, not always peaceful to be truthful...
You could say we have a bit of "history" with the French. We really love each other, but there has been lots of fights through time - including when they decided to back the U.S. in its military efforts to gain full independence from Great Britain. Tsk. I mean, that's not fair. All we wanted to do was send tea to Boston and give the people unlimited plates of baked goods. I mean, true, taxation without representation is a bit of a downer - but think of the cake and proper tea you've missed out on! 🍰☕️
Anyway, on the morning of 22nd February 1797 had seen 1,400 French men put ashore at Carreg West Point. The Legion Noire, from the colour of there uniforms, consisted of 600 Soldiers and 800 convicts. Led by William Tate, a fanatical Irish American with a hatred of Britain, he worked under orders to create a revolutionary spark which could bring down William Pitt and the government. Clearly Short of provisions the French raided farm houses before being faced by Lord Cadaw and his hastily mustered force. Resistance ensued but resulted in quick surrender. Thankfully we are now at peace and never clash at sea over scallops or anything. Oops.
Have a wonderful weekend! Great shot by @the_running_photographer. I'm off to fix the leak in my shed roof... 🇬🇧 Want your Photos of Britain to be featured? Follow us and tag us in the shot 'ta very much! 🇬🇧
