Sometimes I catch myself looking at this life I’ve built and saying things like, “I never thought I’d be relaxing in a pool at a Beverly Hills mansion.”
But, maybe deep inside I always knew I actually would. Maybe I just got sick of that fact that life happened + that girl who used to dream was all bound up by circumstances.
I’ve never been afraid of hard work. I just caught myself on the wrong path. So I set that bound up girl free and let her be my tour guide.
She’s relentless and damn I had missed her. 💕

Blurry picture but...day ✌🏼 is in the books. Working out with a cold/really bad cough is tough. Like I feel superrrr out of shape. It hurts to breathe. The plus side to my cough? The extra ab workout I am getting. The downside to a bad cough, it’s hard to teach and workout. Lol. But I got through my workout, maybe taking a few extra break. But I did it. I pushed play and managed to get through the whole workout. I am going to be so sore tomorrow. 😳
Very honored to be a part of teacher appreciation night🤩
School year made.
These girls are such sweethearts. #teacherlife

Boom! 🎤 •
Ok so yes...and I needed to hear this today! In fact I think my whole hallway of amazing teachers needs to hear this! Thank you @luvmykinders •
When I was in 1st grade I thought teaching was a chill job. My teacher had a mini fridge in her room keeping her Diet Pepsi ice cold...which she drank all day. She had a tv at her desk...set up so only she could see it. I remember hearing her talk about watching her “stories” which I now know were soap operas. She always had the best stickers and always seemed to have ample time to call each one of us up to choose the sticker we wanted for our sticker book when our work was completed. She wrote notes to her teacher friends. We always thought this because she would giggle as she wrote then called on one of us to deliver it. •
My idea of teaching (then) was cold drinks wherever you wanted, watching soap operas, cute stickers and writing notes to friends. Fast forward to my current teaching life and I have yet to have time to do any of those things let alone finish my coffee while it’s still hot or my Dr Pepper when it’s still cold. My days are filled with rushing, eating fast, holding it and leaving drop dead tired at the end of the day. I have no doubt that my 6 year old brain glamorized teaching and I’m sure my teacher worked plenty hard and deserved her Diet Pepsi and her soap opera break while we were at recess. BUT just incase anyone ever thinks that teaching is anything less than hard work and dedication I’m here to say that it’s not...it is in no way shape or form a chill job. If you are a teacher reading this...you are amazing and your dedication to your students is off the charts and although may not be apparent in this very moment...you are making a difference. •
If you are a parent reading this give your child’s teacher a great big thank you for everything they do for your child. They do more that you’ll ever even know! #thankateacher#teachersrule
So here is the skinny: if you've been following me, or not, I've been doing "Dani's Year of Fitness" where I set a goal to do 365 workouts in 365 days.
I know, I know...it seems crazy. I will get sick some days or be on vacation, or whatever. But my goal is to do makeup workouts for those days...a short extra ab workout or SOMETHING. Just something to work the muscles and heart!
Anyways, the first year (2017), I DID IT! Theeeennnnnn 2018 rolled around. If you look at that top picture there, I didnt make it. SUCK. I still did a lot of exercising, but not reaching my goal. I fell off the radar 100%. And here is why I think it happened: I got stuck into a workout program that was not for me. I hated it. I felt bad that I hated it because everyone else loved it and saw great results. But...no. I hated everything about it. I dreaded doing it. Then I got burnt out and cursed all exercise.
So...here is my plan/goal for 2019: as you can see, I just flipped the calendar over bc I'm cheap 😂 I'm doing it again. And this time, I WILL do it. And do it well. And if I am dreading my workouts every day, I wont stick with it because that ish isnt for me. I will find something that works for me and excites me.
And if you read all the way to the end, I hope you are ready for 2019 and find something that excites you too!
Glimpses of day 2's rainy day recess this week. Some Legos, Pick Up Sticks (I taught them this game, and now, they love it), and of course, computer games. Some of them were playing Prodigy, though, so there's that.

I use a Kmart train table for activities and small world play for my twinkies and wanted one for the classroom. I was very generously gifted a well loved train table from my local Buy Nothing community. I gave it a bit of a refurb using Kmart contact and new felt from Spotlight, which I'm going to velcro on. The blue will be for underwater themes. I have enough leftover felt to make cutouts for things like lakes, ponds, paddocks etc. I plan to use small world play in the classroom and incorporate it into literature rotations, hopefully.
Was this large coffee at 9:30 PM a bad idea? Probably! BUT when your week is loaded with two home basketball games and an early morning meetings all on top of lesson planning and teaching... you make an exception for extra caffeine!

A lotttt to unpack here, but an overview: my dot grid pages of my #passionplanner are dedicated to being my #teacherbujo
This is my favorite spread, the #teacherdashboard, as inspired by @alexandra_plans. The color scheme is determined by my @stickyinspirations (looking forward to using the new ones, but these blue ones work so well). I'll talk about the details of my teacher planning and bujo in my next post because this one is dedicated to...
Dear Evan Hansen, my current favorite musical! Every pic here is my homage to it:
1. My planner with the novel version, one of my Christmas gifts from Jeff! I can't wait to read it
2. Jeff and me at the Ahmanson, the first time watching it
3. Ma and me, this past weekend at Segerstrom
4. The soundtrack, given as a Secret Santa gift to me by an SRLA student!
5. The last one is self indulgent screen shot of when the 12 Days of Christmas countdown was happening, and I teared up at three words written on my phone screen... #dramatic
Is Thrive expensive?🤔
📱Cell phones are expensive.
🖥Cable tv is expensive.
💻Internet is expensive.
✂️Haircuts and highlights are expensive.
💅Manicures and pedicures are expensive.
🍽Going out to dinner is expensive.
☕️Coffee is expensive.
👹Energy drinks are expensive.
I do some of those things (like most people do!), and NONE of them profoundly impact the quality of my health and my ability to be the best person I can be every single day.
💯Most people do not know how amazing the body is designed to feel! With premium nutrition in 3 easy steps within the first 20-30 minutes of your day you set your entire day up to be energized and feeling your best!
🆓The best part is....wait for it....YOU can earn your Thrive for FREE!!! Ask me how and let's get you to stop just surviving and start Thriving!!! ✨Thrive has done so much for me.. I can't wait to see what it does for you!!
Why will you spend $5 one energy drinks, $20+ on protein, and an untold amount of vitamins and other supplements...but say thrive is too expensive? $5 a day? You spend that on junk....

A moment from my kindergarten classroom: gardening like pros.
The class has been growing plants indoors so we can easily observe the plants as they change. I’ve been reading the kids a lot of books and showing them videos, but having these plants grow right before their eyes really ties it in! This week our plants grew leaves, so we’ve been learning all about the parts of leaves, what leaves do for the plant, and what kinds of leaves we can eat. You should have seen all these kindergarteners counting their leaves! 🍃🌿 I also love having a garden bed. The kiddos moved their pea shoots into the garden today since they were getting too tall. Next on the agenda is possibly making a sweet pea tent!

A moment in my kindergarten class: joyful squeals from growing seeds.
There’s nothing quite like hearing a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds get SUPER excited watching seeds grow. We are learning about the basic needs of plants! 🌱I am super lucky this year and have 2 parents who come in every week to garden with 27 kiddos! The class has planted flowers, vegetables and fruit!
We’ve also been doing some indoor gardening. These kids LOVE their baby plants and know everything it needs. We even did a soil composition test beforehand! 😅 Dedicated kindergarteners.
A moment in my classroom: visiting farms that donate all their crops.
I can't believe the school year is almost over. We are still going strong and doing a lot. Just last week we went to Marra Farm. We've been learning about plants' basic needs to live and growing our own garden. We then visited one of the few farms still in Seattle, literally in the middle of a neighborhood, to see the vegetables they grew. The class was excited to see the farm growing the same veggies we did and more. It's days like this that make me love my job.
I can’t be in a national park today, but I sure can wear one 🤗
The kids in my classes all love this skirt. They ask me where I get these crazy outfits, and if this place exists. I tell them about the first time I saw this lake in real life. It was even more beautiful than this skirt (they can’t believe it).
Some of my students have already traveled more than I have at 33 as 12 year olds. But for others (many others) this is new. The pictures on my wall (and on my dresses). The idea that an old math teacher could do something outside of work. Could have a life outside of fractions and decimals and percents. That there are people who know me for something completely different from the way they do.
It’s important for me to teach them math. But it’s also important to show them that you can be more than one thing. And that those things can coexist. Intertwine. Show up together or apart. It’s all okay. It’s who we are.

Current status: freezing. Living in cozy sweaters. Wondering how last week was a month long. 🤷🏻♀️😂
Ready to tackle this week and be back in the swing of things! What’s your current status?!
Someone asked me today if I ever doubted becoming a teacher. •
I had to stop and think. Had I ever doubted my career choice....OF COURSE! Who hasn’t?! (If you’re shaking your head no, come on, be reeeeeal honest with me here!😉) We’ve ALL had bad days or days where you feel like throwing in the towel. Whether it’s the work load, the stress, difficult parents, behavior problems. I mean at least one (if not all) of these things has made me question my own sanity in choosing this career.
But I will tell you exactly what I told this person. It’s OKAY to have doubts. But don’t let these doubts control you. You HAVE to put the positives first. You have to make sure that the positive things you take away from your day outweigh the negative. Mindset, my friends. We preach it to our kiddos but we also have to practice what we preach.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, I ALSO told this person that I wouldn’t choose another career if I could. Because I know that all of my positivities will one day become wonderful, future world changing humans.💛
We absolutely love this different take on a birthday chart! Because rainbows are life obvs 🌈💕 💁♀️ 📸 : @twinklytails
