Paradise Garden is magical at night -- just ask anyone who has stayed in our AirBnbs and toured Howard Finster's folk art environment after sunset. On Saturday, you can see for yourself at the first Moonlight in Paradise, when the Garden is open till midnight. Take a stroll on beautiful mosaic sidewalks as they glisten in the moonlight. Bring a blanket for a picnic, or set up one of our picnic tables with your favorite take-out. And you can even bring your pup. Questions? Give us a jingle at 706-808-0800. It's hard to say who had the better time, Kip Ramey or his students, at Young Artists Folk Art Camp on Thursday. The Northeast Georgia artist worked on several projects with the kids, including mixed media compositions incorporating his signature recycled soda can tops. Howard would've popped open a can of Coca-Cola to celebrate that! #paradisegarden#howardfinster#summervillega@krameyart
We had some excellent guest instructors at the Young Artists Folk Art Camp today, Athens area artists Peter Loose (left) and Tex S. Crawford (rear, right). They worked on several projects with the kids, including painting window screens in the old Baltimore style. Thanks, guys, for helping train the next generation of folk artists! #paradisegarden#summervillega@bongopeterloose@tex_s_crawford
We’re proud to share photos of the eight large Coca-Cola bottles painted by Finster Fest artists. They debuted at last weekend’s Party in Paradise fundraiser, and will remain on view at least through the end of the year inside the Garden’s Visitors Center before becoming public art along downtown Summerville sidewalks next spring. Thank you to the artists -- Chris Allison, Eric Legge, Charlie Dingler, Kristen Ramsey, Fawne DeRosia, Kip Ramey, Peter Loose and Becky Altman — for donating their time and talent, and a lotta love. #paradisegarden#howardfinster#summervillega
Imagine the Yellow Brick Road studded in mosaics by Howard Finster! It won't be hard to do come Saturday night, Oct. 6, as Paradise Garden Foundation presents our first Movie in Paradise, “The Wizard of Oz." Bring blankets, chairs and picnic. Gates open at 7:30 p.m., movie at 8 p.m. Garden donation: $5 per person; children under 12, free. Join us for a evening of flickering magic in Paradise Garden! #paradisegarden#summervillega
Last weekend's Party in Paradise was a fun time and raised some needed funds for the operation and restoration of Paradise Garden. We enjoyed a great music from Russell Cook (@rdallascook) and Joseph Evans, delicious dinner from Big Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Q with pies from Jim's Family Restaurant under the big tent, the unveiling of an exhibit of life-size Coca-Cola bottles painted by Finster Fest artists, and a silent auction of art by even more Finster Fest artists. #paradisegarden#summervillega#worthycause
It's almost party time! Join us Saturday night (Sept. 29) for Party in Paradise at Paradise Garden. Barbecue, music, folk art auction, opening of an exhibit of lifesize Coca-Cola bottles by Finster Fest artists -- and nightfall in Howard's magical art environment. Attend and help support the operation and restoration of the Garden! More info and to reserve: 706.808.0800. #howardfinster#paradisegarden#summervillega
Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q from Decatur, Alabama, will be catering Party in Paradise next Saturday (9/29) at Paradise Garden. This legendary BBQ spot, which opened in 1925, keeps winning competition trophies, including 2017 Grand Champion at Memphis in May. In addition to pork with Big Bob Gibson's trademark white barbecue sauce, the evening will feature live music, and a silent auction of art donated by Finster Fest artists as well as restaurant gift certificates and tickets to adventures. The evening starts with the opening reception for an exhibit of lifesize Coca-Cola bottles painted by Finster Fest artists, which will decorate downtown Summerville sidewalks starting next spring. My latest project is a Coke Bottle Trash Can for the City of Summerville, home of Paradise Garden by Howard Finster.
Want to see it all come together? Watch the time lapse here:
My bottle's image is inspired by Finster's Folk Art Church and a large white concrete boot located in the gardens. I added faces to the clouds and moon since it's something that Finster was known for. I also paint celestial objects with faces and I thought that it would be a great mashup of two artists' work.

Even Howard Finster, who taught the Puritans a thing or two about the Puritan work ethic, took a break every now and then. We wish you a relaxing Labor Day! (*Photo by J.F.
