Happy Father’s Day to all the strong father figures out there! Excited to see my own dad in a few weeks time. He’s an absolute gem of a dad, yesterday telling me he would pay for me to change my flight ticket because he was worried that I was too cold in the UK 😂 Bless him!

But..something felt strange. Every time she went to dig up any ingredient, someone else was taken when she came back to the table...
Swimming with a jaguar😞

What is family? Today watching the various shorebirds raising their young along the beach of the barrier islands - I heard the answer loud and clear! It’s being a unit - not an individual - but your family connection being the most important thing in the world to you - your parents, your siblings even others around you - they are all your family... With Fathers Day approaching I remember the connection to my own parents. We had a few tough breaks in life, the loss of a sibling and then two difficult postings in which the best decision was for me to go off to boarding school. I remember the offer they made - a better life for me, a better future (ironically a Miami Birding school - see how many decades I could have saved myself?!) however I was all they had left, we were a unit of three. It didn’t feel right to leave them alone to pursue what was “best for me”. Ultimately we stayed together and I was raised by them and the many strangers who became family in these faraway lands... watching the Terns guarding their “crèche” the chaos when an invader threatened a chick 🐥 reminded we that perhaps we need to remember to stick together as a family. Friends come and go, but the last thought for me every day is that of my parents - they are me and I am them - just like in this colony of Terns.... hope you enjoy the series of photos and videos just taken a few hours ago ....
🐥🐥🐥 The crèche (from French) in zoology refers to care of another's offspring, for instance in a colony. This term is generally used in the study of bird colonies. Many penguins form crèches, in addition to many other birds such as the Canada goose, common eider and common shelduck.

Bison's eyesight is poor, but their hearing and sense of smell is very good. In fact, a bison can smell an animal 3 km away! 🐃
