Happy Birthday 🎈🎁🎉 to my amazing, incredible friend @sf_fit_babe !!! Today’s workout was especially for her !!! 1 mile repeats, than .25 mile sand bag and .25 bucket x 6 !!! Whooohhoo !! How do you workout for your bday???
I'm in a holding pattern on working out. I'm 4 weeks post-shoulder surgery, and still rehabbing. Don't forget about me, I'm still here but havent posted as much because the Doctor put a complete hold on me doing any activity. I overestimated my comeback and tried to jump back in to working too soon, and he slowed me right back down.
I have big goals, and I need to completely heal and recover. To do that, I need to set my stubborn tendencies aside and do a better job at listening to my Doctor than I do at listening to my own body when its screaming at me! This is not a time to just push through pain.
My patience through the setback will be what gives me the best chance at success. My comeback will happen! (This is just me reminding me of this fact!👏)
THE FLOOR IS LAVA 🌋
Everything , Anywhere , All The time. Who gets down with that philosophy ?
I really do believe that if you want to sustain any fitness activity its best to find something you actually enjoy. Once you do, it’s a game changer because it just becomes a natural part of your life & more sustainable. Something you look forward to instead of dreading. For me personally thats how I got into Ninja warrior ; it’s using the body by climbing , moving or hanging on things. It excites me because it requires NOTHING more than the body & your potential.
Last weekend, I learned a lot about my running form, training, and more importantly about myself. I walked/limped away encouraged and excited! My 2019 word is “growth” and boy did I find I room to grow. For starters, I coming off a season where I actually won races, this thing called “pride” appears. I must continually set this down and consider the interest and welfare of others more than my own. Additionally, I can learn from others if I would just listen. I was humbled to have friended and trained alongside some of the top OCR runners in the world, including the 2018 WTM Champion. Here are some of my key take-aways from my weekend with the @diazhp human performance group.
1. I have weak ankles and knees.
2. I’m a heel-striker (which will lead to bad knees).
3. I have a much better than average VO2 Max score (Consumption of oxygen for endurance).
4. I need to eat more! (My body is looking for sugar all the time and at risk of losing muscle).
5. I train too much too long at a high intensity level (which helps condition the body for sugar consumption). Way to comfortable being uncomfortable.
6. My calfs were laid off for 40 years. Putting them to work HURTS!
7. Running/Fitness consists of 3 basic elements (Efficiency, Economy, and Skill). I run like a truck stuck in 2nd gear trying to go 50 mph and Jake-braking.
8. The programing at @dust2glory_fitness () was on point for helping people find improvement in conditioning even if they did all or some of items 1-7 above.
I can’t wait to begin to apply and teach what I learned. I am taking things one step at a time. Growth may be small or unseen at first… I’m looking to the future with a hopeful vision while putting in the work… nothing is too difficult for the Lord! May He get the glory in the process and the results!
Next Saturday will mark my 70th @spartanrace .... yes, 70. That’s a lot. And yes, my nerves are worse than ever, no amount of start lines changes that. And those nerves are good, to me, it means I care more than ever. I want it more than I ever have before. •
See y’all in Chino.... 🤘🏼 #rebelrunnerpro#humanoctane#7seasroasting#springenergy
