Of all the iconic bars that deliver a destination experience the one that truly left me with a sense of this place is truly interesting was the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel in Singapore many years ago. It's still the top of my list as you get a sense of the important world events and conversations that had taken place there.
Then on the other end of the spectrum every destination has its iconic and cherished for lack of a better expression.. dive bar...the iconic Elbo Room at the start of the main strip in Ft Lauderdale is one such bar. I first enjoyed this bar back in the early 80s when I started running college spring break tours, it was fun then and poking my head in earlier today I see it is still fun today. Simple formula, a guy with a guitar is always playing and creating vacation memories for those looking for an afternoon of good times next to the beach!!!
Elbo room update: they are celebrating 80 years of delivering a unique bar experience to those that visit!!! And it seems that 1982 just came back to me as I walked in the door! Travel is life and my life is travel!
To me, Iconic hotels set the standard for the rest of the industry. Each Grande Dame Hotel has a million stories to tell...many of the stories staff will not share as maintaining guest confidences is critical to the business of keeping guests coming back to their home away from home.
Sitting in the lobby of a landmark hotel is like watching a movie of well orchestrated movement of guests, porters, drivers, bellmen, door men and business people waiting for the person they are meeting. Always interesting and you never know who or what you will see.
In this case the Hilton Fort Worth has a great American history tale to tell...John F. Kennedy gave his last speech at the Hilton Fort Worth and thus the hotel found its place in history.
On my last stay here I was intrigued by the little cards of Kennedy's shared wisdom that they would leave on the pillows at night. Reminding you that you are staying in a truly historical hotel.
Moreso, the share of wisdom of a great American politician in a different time.
Loved my stay at the Hilton Forth Worth!

Sometimes great food brings you to a destination via your taste buds. Tonight I was thrilled to be able to be transported to Mexico via the fine Mexican cuisine at Made in Mexico in the heart of quaint Main Street in Newmarket Ontario Canada. The dish in the pic is a luscious surf and turf burrito accompanied by simple yet so on point lime cilantro rice and the best refried beans this side of the Rio Grande! The beef in the burrito was seasoned with gentle explosive flavours that provided just an awesome Mexican foodie experience. The grilled shrimp that surfed the top of the burrito reminded me of the grilled shrimp tacos found in Southern California hole in the wall, mom & pop shops that serve the most authentic Mexican food!
The mood enhancing large on the rocks margarita was easily the best margarita in a very long time!

So sometimes you have to try a new recipe. For those from Montreal you may remember The Bar B Barn! This recipe came close albeit on short ribs vs pork ribs. Baked in the oven to ensure tenderness, voluptuous little baking potatoes grilled salted and buttered until crisp on the outside and soft fluffy salted on the inside. The ribs and potatoes and a fresh picked corn on the cob roasted over live hardwood maple charcoal kissed with a flame to perfection. Short ribs, grilled potatoes bathed in butter and bbqed fresh local picked corn to make any set of taste buds ask for more! The all accompanied by a simple Barbera D'asti red wine that tempered the sweet and the smokie....life is good!!!
Real hardwood charcoal makes all the difference. All in a homemade mop sauce matching that of the world famous Bar B Barn!
If you are going to buy salt ....get Pilaros at Costco or your local grocery store. This is better than any kosher salt....lovely salty with finesse!

A sad day today in the travel foodie world. He blazed the trail on travel and created adventuresome desire to try local food. He opened the eyes and minds of millions of people to travel, culture, food and adventure.
RIP Anthony Bourdain.

Travel truly makes you appreciate some of the things that make home towns unique. Montreal is home to a vast Greek community that set the standard for pizza and souvlaki joints but also to the very high end refined restos like Milos among many others.
Having Greek food in Greece proves to me the high standard of Greek food in Montreal!
Foodie adventure brought me to a local mykonos Gyro joint that was truly delicious...a little up the hill from the beach strip Pikantiki Gonia makes a genuine homemade gyro! True Greek Delight!
What is your favourite travel foodie food?

Great to see the purest SPIRIT of Ukraine, the finest Vodka, ZIRKOVA being a STAR from South Beach to Stouffville!!!! The man behind the bottle is Dan. He is a bartender that brings credibility to the craft.
He tends bar the way the bartenders do in an old Bogey film....or at the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel in Singapore. You can catch him at the Kings Landing and they serve ZIRKOVA!!! Life is travel and travel is my life...
Missing Lviv and for aviation buffs a look at what the terminal building used to look like. One of the few places where they did not tear down the old classic airport terminal building when they built the new terminal.
Travel is life...and my life is travel!
A little mochie ice cream appetizer....spoiled fine Asian cuisine....Garlic and Onion in Richmond Hill ....the ginger chicken will exhaust your tastebuds....triple yum!

A little post braised short rib pappardelle... TIRAMISU this was an interesting take on that wonderful cake....cake part was fresh and moist, cream was light and combined well with the cake...was unique in flavour and texture...was quite enjoyable. The biscuit part added some crunch!
(this braised dish was a little salt heavy that masked the delicate sumptious flavours of a good braise.)
Service was warm and very top notch.
Will be back for wood burning oven PIZZA....one of the few using real wood fire...the pizzas looked amazing.
Life is travel and travel is my life...
Suite 365 At the historied Marbella Club...the founder's suite...memories made and travel adventures experienced. Service delivered in the style of a grand dame European hotel. The spa is one of the very best I have been to...first time for Cossack style massage....ask for Alexandra...stretching & invigorating! Cuisine is classic and of the highest level. It has been an exceptional experience.
A true special luxurious experience.
It is great to see that AIRLINES are getting serious about food again. And I, like many love it...Maine Lobster appetizer followed by a braised New Zealand Spring lamb stew with edamame, that was uber tender, in a sauce that highlighted pepper to add dimension to the lamb. A well pulled together inflight meal...air foodie for sure... BRAVO Chef Boulud!
The Carmel Cake dessert offered a smooth salty creamy aura for the sweet tooth. A surprisingly awesome foodie experience at 37,000 feet.
10 year old tawny and mint tea to bring it all together. The adventure continues...
