Just got new patches from @patchwork_and_paws I love them and they’re gorgeous! The colors are so vibrant and they are such good quality patches. I’ll definitely be a returning customer in the future!
This is just one part to Lexi’s new gear set up!
Photo Description: 5 patches on a white background. They’re all pink. They say, Working K9 Do Not Distract, I’m a Service Dog What’s Your Super Power?, I Help Her Make Her Own Magic, and Service Dog Her Animal Sidekick.
How much does your dog trust you? Are you worthy of their trust?
I'm sure you've seen people asking their dogs to climb on things and jump over obstacles. To an onlooker it may look trivial or just like a cute trick. To me, it is a great bonding exercise and can tell you a lot about your relationship.
When we first started on the walk, Declan was hesitant in his abilities to climb the large rocks along the trail. It took a bit of coaxing, but once he got his footing, he didn't mind at all!
There's an amazing "ah hah!" Moment when your dog conquers an obstacle with your help. It builds the trust they have in your leadership and judgement of a situation. For a service dog, this can be a make or break trait to have as a team.
We ask our dogs to trust us and follow us into new situations with crazy sights, sounds, and smells. You need to always build on that trust, and keep it strong.
Don't ever ask your dog to do something they cannot do, and don't expect more from them than they can give. It only hurts your relationship and can damage the bond you have.
Lastly, don't expect trust and respect that you haven't worked for. It's so much more rewarding when your hard work shows and pays off to improve both of your lives.
Quick trip to Target to pick up some prescriptions and Antares was on point the whole time. She heeled perfectly with a loose leash, actually volunteered a "sleep" position when in a tuck, and beautifully ignored a pet corgi that was in a cart barking at her 🙄 Our local Target is absolutely awful about pets. When we have mentioned it to management, all they say is "We get over 100 pets a day, so it would be impossible to verify them all" 😖 -
Rosie was a great mascot at last night’s art event. We had a great turnout and sales, and I like to think that a good portion of it was due to Rosie’s unique wirehaired charm. If you want to check out some of what I was selling, you can see what’s still available on my art Instagram at @ashleybravin, and commissions (including pet portraits) are available. ****************************************************

Being a service dog handler comes with it's ups and downs. Almost like having a young child; You teach them to conquer so many things and when they do you are so proud you can't contain it. When you know they know better, you remind yourself that everyone has bad days. Yesterday Emi, Chance and I went to dinner with two of my friends. My favorite restaurant: Lins Garden. At first I was my usual worried of them denying us, but that quickly faded. As Hannah was helping me dish out Emi's plate while I got my own Chance and I headed to the buffet. Lots of stares per usual, but boy was Chance doing amazing! He didn't sniff up closer to the food, left food alone that was on the floor, stopped when I stopped, went when I went. I had him in front instead of my usual block since I wanted to make sure other people had enough room. We got our food and sat down with our friends. Had great conversations while Chance tucked very nicely underneath, allowing my friends enough room for their feet at well. Y'all I cannot contain how happy I was. The good days like this shows me that I can do this and we can do this! Here's to having more days like this and enjoying friends ❤️ thank you again Hannah for everything ❤️ #servicedogteam#servicedogchance#servicedogheeler#servicedog#servicedoglife#servicedogsofinstagram#psychiatricservicedog#servicedogpublicaccess#wecandothis#anxiety#anxietyalert#tasktrained#workingdog#depression#dermatillomania#ocd#add#adhd#mentalhealthawareness#endthestigma

Antares scared the crap out of me this weekend by coming up lame. She had a minor sprain and is totally fine now. Apparently she's a bit of a drama queen when it comes to injuries 😅 BUT the good news is, I got a look at her hips under x-ray and they are beautiful! Her growth plates have sealed, so my girl is about 2 years old, which fits with how she's been maturing recently. She's also had some pretty epic alerts for my heart rate. Good girl is good. -

We train for the real world. For weird situations and wacky circumstances. Yesterday, we went to help our neighbor clean her car. Ryder was put in a down stay on the sidewalk in front of the car. He held his position even when I was not in sight and others were coming and going. I’m a strong believer that our dogs need to be solid no matter the situation. What are you and your dog working on?

Ember and I had a REALLY big day yesterday. We went to see @ionnalee play a show in Portland and before the show Ember got to meet her. Thank you for being so welcoming, Ember liked you very much and it was a pleasure to see you again. I knew Ember would do well at the meet and greet, but this was her first time attending a concert so I was not sure how she would do. I'm going by myself to see ionnalee play in Seattle tomorrow so this was the perfect opportunity to see if she could handle an event like this. If the show was too stressful for Ember I was fully prepared to leave to keep her physically and mentally safe. I'm going to make a separate post with footage and details from the show itself, but she did absolutely amazing and totally exceeded my expectations. This was definitely the most advanced public outing we have ever done and I could not be more proud of her.
Happy Easter Everyone! 🐣
Yesterday afternoon we welcomed this little ray of sunshine to our home! Say hello to Parker! Parker is an 8 week old male show line Golden Retriever! He will be training to become my multipurpose service dog. Don’t worry, Caspian is not going anywhere! He is my heart dog and I love him to pieces! However, over the past few months he has been showing me that he doesn’t love working as much as he once did and that’s okay. Caspian was not bought with the intention to train him as a SD. I knew there would be a good chance that he wasn’t right for the job and I will not ask him to work if he truly doesn’t love it. Also, I have come to realize that I would benefit more from a larger dog who would eventually be able to perform mobility tasks, due to more than one of my disabilities. This has been months in the making, but I didn’t announce his arrival until now, just incase something suddenly changed. We are so happy that he is finally home! I hope you all love him as much as we do! 💙
