A tragedy need not have blood and death; it's enough that it all be filled with that majestic sadness that is the pleasure of tragedy.
PSS. Got the pleasure of powering thru a minor but wickedly horrible anxiety attack around 5 pm tonight. It lasted about an hour + 1/2, zoning in on breathing deeply while remaining quiet but focused - I only have a limited vault of energy when these strike so exerting myself by being social or spatially aware beyond my bubble is not immediately an option - but eventually I called a loved one on a bathroom break (I was at work) helped, I told them, I can’t talk right now but please, talk to me... I need the comfort of your voice. It is grounding and helpful, even if you feel silly. After, I went back out on the floor and mustered up some courage to make small chat with my employees on shift because I felt ready for help to distract me and loosen up my nervous tension. After getting off, I drank lots of water and wandered around the mall aimlessly with no real destination just to allow my thoughts + emotions to unravel. I tried to shop, but I didn’t push it 🙌🏻 Just gave myself some space to walk off the ledge of dread, confusion, and crippling fear... because you guys, this time (no matter how rationalizing tells me I’m safe) it was totally scary. Physical pain in my chest, really vivd emotional flashbacks, and a dip in my ability to feel and function; please universe, have better things planned for me than this and give me strength to grow from it regardless.
Right now, perfectly undone, I’ve read of spiritual prayer and am allowing the pitter-patter of rain outside, dim glow of the multicolored christmas lights, and soothing playlist to cradle me as I tuck away my conscious and surrender you, this, and everything to a new day

It is said that pictures are worth 1,000 words, but there’s still a lot that can be left unsaid. From the outside, everything might look perfect but inside, things just aren’t right. Although we aren’t personally affected by a mental health illness, so many are, and so many are afraid to speak up.
DID YOU KNOW: 1 in 4 people will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives? Additionally, a staggering 450 MILLION PEOPLE currently suffer from such conditions, making mental health conditions the LEADING CAUSE of ill-health and disability worldwide?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For years, mental health has had a negative connotation of sorts. Truth is, there are so many variations in mental illness and not all are what many people assume. To be mentally unstable, you don’t have to experience hallucinations; mentally unstable individuals are not “crazy”, matter of fact, the mental health community strongly discourages the use of that term. Mental illness is NOT a one-size fits all. You may be experiencing one or a number of the symptoms that can be defined as a mental disorder, or you may have friends/family around you experiencing a mental disorder.
Unfortunately, the words ‘illness’ and ‘disorder’ also carry a negative connotation; this causes so many people to suffer in silence. They are afraid to speak up, afraid to be labeled, afraid to seek help; for some, this can be detrimental. It’s also important to recognize that a diagnosis, disorder, or illness isn’t always present. Often times, people are going through a rough time and for one reason or another, they are afraid to speak up. Let’s change that ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We often only hear about mental health awareness, suicide prevention, etc. when someone we know is dealing with loss or when our nation is dealing with the tragedy of a mass shooting. This shouldn’t be the case.
We have a friend working to support the cause of suicide prevention, help those affected to stop suffering in silence, and RAISE AWARENESS. They have a story of their own and their story deserves to be heard. Please take a few minutes of your time to read; you, too can make an impact ♥️ link in bio

In the wake of Anthony Bourdain’s suicide, chefs and restaurateurs are speaking out about rampant stress, depression and substance abuse in their field and ways to fight back.⠀
"I don't want to hide it anymore," says Charles Ford, the 31-year-old general manager of a high-end restaurant in Chicago who attempted suicide three times.⠀
Insiders have long worried privately about the lifestyle of people who work in the restaurant industry, which has one of the highest rates of illicit drug use and alcoholism. The brutal nature of restaurant-kitchen culture is also part of the problem. Physical and emotional toughness is prized and workplace conventions like 40-hour workweeks, breaks and professional courtesy can be foreign concepts.⠀
At the same time, young people raised watching "Top Chef" and Food Network now enter the profession with high expectations—and debt loads—once rare in this largely blue-collar field.⠀
Organizations from large trade groups to individual restaurateurs have launched efforts to support restaurant workers. In July, the National Restaurant Association started a health plan in partnership with UnitedHealthcare that offers medical and mental-health coverage. The American Culinary Federation also rolled out a group health-insurance program for members for the first time this year. ⠀

Two plus years ago and it’s still true.
Your voice matters.
Your story matters.
Your life matters. .
I often think about how these lovenotes are only in English and how limiting it could be. But then I daydream about a situation where the painting is on display and there is someone who can read the painting standing next to someone who cannot. Strangers both observing. I dream that the non English speaking person asks with a gesture to the other what it says. The English speaking person has to try and describe/show “you matter” to the other person... this daydream always leave a big fat smile on my face. As two people connect, who maybe would have never had the chance to connect before, and shares that the other one matters. . . .
Post by Jasmin Pierre @afightworthfinishing@itsthesafeplace — “UNPOPULAR OPINION: I'm fine if this post makes some people uncomfortable, because the truth usually does. 🤷🏽♀️ I've been seeing this quote at the top everywhere. While it's true that suicide hurts, this meme is continuing to make suicide issues about EVERYONE else except the person who's actually going through them. I've heard it all the time. "Think about what it will do to your family? What about us" but nobody is asking "what about YOU". No one cares what it's doing to you and YOUR mental health. I think if we focus more on the person who's feeling suicidal, and not worrying so much about how it will affect everyone else first, it could very well add to more suicide prevention. Families and friends we know it will hurt you, But you have to first focus on how much it's hurting THEM.” • International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is November 17, 2018. •

In my momentary sadness
It’s not momentary
If moments are just fractions
Of time and ends
In my momentary sadness
It’s not sad
It’s more and it’s nothing
In my momentary sadness
It’s the spaces between
If it’s read like a classic
It’s the time in between
Worried that talking might make things weird between you and your friend? Actually, reaching out could really do your friend good. It could even make your friendship stronger. But don’t take it from us. Watch the video to learn more. #SeizeTheAwkward
