Happy Monday, friends! It's the last week of September - AH!
I took it a bit easy this summer but I'm gearing up for a busy next few months. This week on the docket, I'm:
✨printing, packaging and delivering a couple of wholesale orders for some sweet shops!
✨finishing up a custom home illustration for a new client
✨getting my workflow a bit more organized
✨working on some holiday products
✨getting through my email
✨and hopefully fitting in some watercolor time (as pictured!) just for me <3.
P.S. I am an expert camera avoider (just ask my sister @jmtilden), but @photographybykamice took some photos of me recently that I just LOVE and this is one of them! Look her up in if you're in San Diego!
Day 24 of 30 • SOLO #21 - 9"×12" Oil & cold wax.
As I get ready to return to the lecture circuit, I have been thinking about how to articulate why making art that is deeply personal feels so politically charged.
Even if the themes in my art aren't overtly political, daring to believe that my perspective -- as a queer, mixed-race, black-skinned daughter of immigrants, and a middle-aged mother -- would matter to anyone but me is a revolutionary act.
Daring to believe that the world through my eyes is relevant and beautiful and worthy of consideration, of being framed and beautifully lit, hung on gallery walls or in people's homes is an act of defiance, especially at a time when social/cultural/political forces are hell bent on eradicating all that I embody and love. This 'daring to believe' is precisely why I create art...
Meet @lordego1! One of the 3 artists showing work for our upcoming show “Fantasmagoria” that opens Thurs Oct 4th at Statix! The show also features the work of @martinheadrocks and @haubs 👽💀👹 this is the 1 min. Insta version, watch the full mini doc on our website, Facebook, or YouTube and get to know the amazing art of EGO!

Owl Always Love You!
You know what I also love?
So here's a sweet little graphite barn owl drawing for your Monday!
This sweet barn owl is one I have worked with before. I did a painting of her during February's 30 in 30 for which the theme was 30 birds in 30 days. Her sister painting is now hanging in the home of my beloved aunt...and her image is on my phone case, some notecards, and a sticker as well (available in my Redbubble Shop- link in bio). I clearly cannot get enough of this owl! :) Wisdom's Keeper
Graphite and Watercolor Pencil on Paper
Matted in Black
Available in my Etsy shop- link in bio!
10% of the sale of this piece will go to support the work of one of my favorite local organizations- @sewardparkaudubon . I have been to many of their events and I have learned so much!
More about the Seward Park Audubon Center:
It is the mission of the Seward Park Audubon Center to help a diverse mix of young people to cultivate wonder and develop an insatiable curiosity in the natural world. They do this through environmental science, outdoor exploration and play- inspiring conservation of natural ecosystems and the building of healthy communities for people, birds, and wildlife.
Each year, Seward Park Audubon Center connects more than 20,000 children and adults from all backgrounds with nature right here in my city of Seattle and while Seward Park Audubon Center is part of the National Audubon Network, they raise all of our their own funds.
Most of this support comes from individuals in their community.
With your help.
