Deceptive Simplicity by Matt LaCross
A term used to describe an image of perceived simplicity, until you are emerged in the process of the creation.
The images displayed are but a small glimpse into the mind of one of Seattle’s most prolific artists. Images that stem from a life of diversity, struggle, joy and pain. A life of travel, near death experiences, and a passion for creation.
As a 3rd generation Seattle native, Matt LaCross has continued to develop his interests as an industry leader in the alternative sports industry, creator of the only no-fee, no-commission art gallery in Seattle, founder of one of the most highly recognized specialty BMW Motorsport retail locations in the United States, and has developed his artistic ability for the sole purpose of creation.
The idea of the continuous line images you see, or what some call “one-liners” have been inspired by the works of Pablo Picasso. Creating a continuous line image comes from the subconscious, and can never be recreated. Each image has been created by hand in one stroke, one idea, one pure thought. This requires committing to the idea, no matter what the outcome.

Queen Daisy’s too humble to mention it but she had quite the moment this past weekend. Our most popular cards during the summer have been eclipsed so far at holiday events by Daisy and some polar bear friends. ❄️💌🎄♻️ #ypckindshare#bringkindnessbacktothemailbox
These will be two new characters of mine. Hopefully sometime soon I will be able to make a reference sheet for each of these two. I really like how this turned out. I am also working with drawing humans or anything that has a structure like a human (I.E. furries). I hope you like the art. This took me 2 hours. I use an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil for all of my drawings!! #seattleartist#art#artistsoninstagram#artist
The first day we arrived here I saw this crow outside our apartment that was both black and silver. And I thought, poor thing, must have been through something rough. But when we started seeing them everywhere I realized we weren’t seeing just a one off mutation, but a whole different species of crow. The #hoodedcrow is something totally new to me, but has been in Rome since ancient times. Quite a handsome bird! #birdsofrome
ICYMI- Here’s the final print version of the #graphic and some photos of the #sculpey modeling process.
Don’t forget to read the full story online:
And thanks again to the expert @fernandog.baptista for showing me this process. For a more detailed explainer, I’ve pinned the Instastory to my profile.
Here’s one I just recently finished. I don’t really use these colors very much but I think I like them. Have a great day. ✌️and ❤️

Door number 80. We passed by this door in Vietnam while wandering the not quite alley streets that created a maze within the city blocks of Saigon. It was incredible to me how disorganized and yet incredibly functional the city was at times. The chaos had created its own sort of grid, except the main rule was there are no rules.
This gorgeous work of art by Kippi Leonard, "Written In the Sand", has found a new home in Capitol Hill with a lovely couple who fell in love with it when they first saw it. I am so happy for them to experience such an ethereal, beautiful, emotional work. Art connects deeper at a level that is futile to try to explain on any plane. It just does! “Out of the mist into tropical splendor
With garlands of flowers
In Majestical fusion we see tonight.
Onto this sacred reunion of pleasure
They row as a rhythm, ten-thousands of millions
They touch the light…”
I’ve been working on bringing my passion for creativity closer to me, so when I was asked to do a live painting for the First Aid Arts benefit, I kinda freaked out...but knew it was an opportunity to do just that.
It freaked me out in a way that I knew I needed to press into it and get past my fear, and I’m so glad I did.
Painting in front of people is something that I’d never choose to do on my own, wondering what they think, knowing someone in the audience has more skill than me, afraid someone will judge my work, etc, etc,...all these thoughts went through my head. But confidently, pressing into my skill that is uniquely me, I did it, and it felt amazing.
Little by little, I’m experiencing healing from my own trauma and insecurities. Learning to be brave and pressing through the fear.
Thank you @FirstAidArts for believing in me! So grateful for this opportunity. ❤️ #firstaidarts#healingtraumawithart#bebrave#seattle#seattleartist#pnwartist#livepainting#traumainformedcare#youmaketheworldmorebeautiful#creative#lovecreatively
Got started on some awesome filigree I incorporated to this project. Most of it was freehand, but all of it....was fun.@jerrysantana thanks for blindly letting me tell you what we were tattooing on your arm..I love it 🤘
It's Monday! A core value that I'm working on this week is "accountability". I plan on being accountable for all my actions in any thing I do. With my fitness journey, staying accountable to me means staying mindful and deciplined with my meal prep and making no excuse to go to the gym. ----
What are you focusing on this week? 📸 @flynnpnw
