In the newspapers today are reports about archaeologists discovering the world's oldest intact shipwreck in the Black Sea, in this case a 23-metre vessel that has lain undisturbed for more than 2,400 years. I have been closely following this story for months and it keeps getting better...
In my book, Black Sea, I talk about how these shipwrecks, 40 or so of them that lay, mainly off the coast of Bulgaria, reveal 2500 years of
seafaring history, highlighting the Black Sea’s unbroken pattern of trade. Some are Ottoman ships from the 16th to 18th centuries, but others date back further. Among the discoveries is a 14th- century Italian ship, probably belonging to the Venetian empire, an oar-powered Cossack assault vessel, and a Roman shipwreck, its mast still standing, galley tiles and its crew’s cooking pots intact. The majority of preserved ships were merchant vessels carrying wine, grain and timber. One, a 2400-year- old ship, was found full of clay storage jars. Remarkably, one still had its contents perfectly preserved, a ship-shape pile of diced-up fish steaks.
I'm writing a quick piece now and will post more soon. (Photo is of the pier at Burgas, Bulgaria, on the Black Sea, taken in the summer of 2016).

Love sea stars? (or starfish, although that's a bit less accurate since they're not fish at all) Then love them and leave them!
Leave them alone, that is. While recent articles about them dying within seconds of being taken out of the water aren't fully true, they do need to stay wet to breathe. Furthermore, pulling them from rocks or other items they've anchored themselves to can severely damage their tube feet. .
Instead of posting selfies of "Look at ME holding this starfish?" why not post photos of "Look at this awesome starfish in its habitat?"
@CMZ.Photo: I’m a landscape photographer from Maine who just enjoys getting out and experiencing/capturing things that people don’t usually get to see including interesting weather conditions and beautiful locations. It’s all about the experience for me. I don’t really have any specific people who inspire me. I take a little bit from everyone I admire and try to form my own body of work.
