When I found out we were pregnant with Waylon. I was shocked. Complete shock! We had just bought our new home and we had gotten rid of all our baby stuff. That chapter of our life was over (or so we thought 😉). My pregnancy was easy, but life threw us so many curveballs. It wasn’t the easiest of times. 2017 was the hardest year for our family. But when I look back at these pics I don’t think of the negative times. Instead these pictures remind me of how lucky I was to grow a human in my very own body. That’s just freaking rad!! ♥️And I’ll always have these special memories to share with my family. That’s why I can’t stress enough the importance of documenting your pregnancies. Just do it!! It’s something you’ll never regret, I pinky promise! 😘♥️

Gift giving during the wedding preparations is one of my favorite moments capture. It’s a break in the chaos for some genuine emotional reactions. Not to mention some sweet bling like this #ferragamo watch @lidiyaharvey gave McLain.
Jumping into a new week like 💥 Five weeks out from the @lamarathon! Can’t believe how time and training has flown. Have a few more lonnng runs in store but I’ve got to say, I’m excited for the damn thing.
What is NEVER GIVE UP.? To me, it is being afraid and making the decision to push ourselves through it. I truly believe we always have a choice. Everyone will face struggles in life - and so often those challenges are out of our control, but we do still have a choice in how we respond. Life's curveballs will shape us, certainly, but it is up to us if we allow them to define us or simply become a part of what helps us grow into ourselves more deeply.
For me, this is very clearly pinpointed to the beginnings of Gwendolyn's SMA diagnosis and the choices we made. At the time there was NO treatment and NO cure. Doctors told us there was "nothing" we could do. But Bill and I felt a pull and even said to a doctor: "There is ALWAYS something to be done." For us, that was getting Gwendolyn the best care possible. Learning everything we could about her disease and connecting with experts and others facing what we were. It was also creating hope by funding research so one day families would have a treatment and a cure -- which now exist today! And it was helping families financially so they could provide their children with what they need and feel less overwhelmed by such a life-altering diagnosis. And it was getting legislation passed to make clinical trials for rare disease easier to access. And it was sharing our story: to raise awareness, to open people's minds and normalize disability and differences, and to help others facing hard things feel less alone.
Choosing to help others allowed me to focus on the gifts in my life, instead of on the struggle. And that perspective allowed me to accept the life I had in my hands, work with the pain (not deny it), and push myself when I was so afraid. And all of those were choices that I got to make.
What does NEVER GIVE UP. mean to YOU?
PS: This photo was taken at our best friends’ wedding. Gwendolyn was 22-months-old. Initially attending felt impossible. Leaving Gwendolyn at home an hour away with someone else seemed impossible. But we pushed ourselves and it was a magical day... and Gwendolyn felt so fancy! It also helped give us courage for the next push. And then the next and the next. #mynevergiveup
