Nougat-powered Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime gets WiFi certified. Follow @mobile_holic for latest Mobile updates.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime was launchedback in September last year. It came with Android Marshmallow out of the box. Now, it looks like the Nougat update for the device is on the horizon. The phone with Android 7.0 on board has received WiFi certification.
Not one, but several models of the handset have been cleared by the WiFi Alliance (WFA). There's no information on exactly when the roll out will begin. But given that the update has started collecting necessary certifications, that should happen sooner than later.
Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) may jump straight to Oreo 8.1. Follow @moboworld_huawei for Latest Huawei Mobiles Updates.
Up until now, Samsung has released Oreo for many of its smartphones. The updates bumped the Android version to 8.0. However, now it looks like there may be some devices that will directly jump to Android 8.1.
Case in point: a GFXBench listing for the Galaxy J5 (2017) that shows Android 8.1 on board.
Previously, the Galaxy J5 (2016) also jumped straight to Android 7.1.1 after being spottedrunning the OS in benchmarks. So, a precedent is clearly there. And it's likely that other J series devices in the series will also make the same jump.
Sadly, there's currently no info on exactly when the update will begin rolling out to these J series devices.

Looks like Samsung will start rolling out the Nougat update to its Galaxy J5 (2016) smartphone soon. The device, which was launched back in April last year running Marshmallow, has now cleared the WiFi Alliance running Android 7.0 Nougat.
While there is currently no information on exactly when the roll out will begin, given that the update has started collecting necessary certifications, it shouldn't be too long before it start hitting units in the wild.
