There was supposed to be a camping-bushcraft session thingy @ Congkak River this weekend but apparently the organizer disappeared. I was faced with the revelation that my weekend would go by unproductive. So 2AM Saturday, gave a wake-up call to Guide Paan & booked a day-trip to his secret lagoon full of wild milkfish. It was a really really hot day. Apparently we learnt that the milkies loathe such condition. The species here is such a fussy one that too hot or too cold is a no-no. Just that 1-hour of transition from those 2 extremes is the best time to make them to eat. As for me, it was right on the dot of my first sip of sweet water on that 20th day of Ramadhan. That first milkfish was kinda nostalgic for me. 13 years ago I travelled solo to this water network in search of my first ever milkfish. They were simply too smart or I was too dumb. I was defeated - twice. And when that fish was in my hands last night, it was a mixture feelings of "fulfilled revenge" + "lifted curse".
It's been several months in the making and there's still plenty to do BUT we are excited to (finally) launch the On The Fly account!
We hope to connect with YOU and share our enjoyment around the sport of fly fishing.
Just to prove how excited we are about all things OTF, take a look at @_adam.emery right after he landed his first #stripedbass on a fly rod!
~DEDICATION TO THE JOB~
I have fished with a lot of passionate guides over the years, but @flats_phantom might be one of the most enthusiast, fun loving, excitable and dedicated guides I have ever witnessed. Watch as Travis expertly moves in and away from the permit waiting for just the right moment to tail my first Bahamas permit ever. He knows these fish and anticipates their every move. Turn up and listen to the excitement had by he, my awesome fishing partner (camera gal) @lindiblaauwpretorius and me as this beauty was finally landed after 4 strong runs. In the final clip, you will witness Lindi hooking into her first permit ever and the dedication of Travis to remedy the issue of a snagged line. Splash. Yes, that is right, he sees the issue and Superman belly flops into the shallows, arms out to push the line off and away from the trim tab. Sadly too late, but never have a seen such commitment to an angler and fish. Travis Sands you are the man. Lindi, from the bottom of my heart I apologize for not putting down the camera and managing your line. It was MY job as your fishing partner and a lesson I won’t forget. This will be on replay in my head for a long while....what if? Ugh. My friend, you have the skill and I know the next permit will be yours. Such a blast fishing with you both. Thank you @christiaanpretorius and @oliverwhitefishing and staff at @abacolodge for having me. Looking forward to my Girl’s Trip return May 2020. #abelreels#craftedforchaos@ablewomenflyfish#saltwaterflyfishing#permit#bahamas
