I often get asked, “What do you recommend? Deep Tissue or Swedish?” and while the answer is always unique to each client, here is my general point of view. If you have either a lot of pain from muscles tension or pain that’s lasted for quite a while (months, years, etc) I generally recommend Deep Tissue. From my experience as a Massage Therapist, the relief tends to last longer due to being able to get to the deeper muscle layers and working out the adhesions. What Deep Tissue DOESNT mean, is that you won’t feel relaxed the entire time, I will surpass your pain threshold, and I’ll keep working regardless of the intensity. That isn’t true! Always keep in mind, wherever/whoever you get Deep Tissue massages from, they should always check in with you regarding pressure and you should always feel comfortable telling them to take down the intensity level a notch. As far as Swedish Massage goes, as a therapist who specializes in deeper work, I definitely think there’s a time and place for it. Due to its relaxing nature, it’s a great massage for those who just want to shut off their brain for an hour or two, relieve overall stress, help with anxiety/sadness, and to treat yourself when you haven’t done anything for yourself in a long time. Hope that clears up the air! These are all my opinions from my experience as a Massage Therapist. ** I offer both types of massage if you are interested in one or the other ** Any questions about DT or Swedish? DM me or leave it in the comments 😊
