Today seemed to be a day where life was trying to hold me down, no matter how amazing everything in my life is right now I always seem to inch towards the negative- fighting to be happy.
But that’s the beauty of life isn’t it? The constant battle? The #toltec would call themselves #warriors - fighting this battle daily between the forces of good and Evil within- I can personally relate to this heavily.

For some of us, our "to do" lists are like our personal manifestos
This is so often the case for folks with an open root centre.
The open root can make you feel under pressure to 'do' all the things. And not stop till they're all done.
And they're NEVER all done.
So you never allow yourself to stop. Even lying in bed, you're thinking about all the things you didn't get done and still have to do!
The open root has the potential to achieve A LOT! But it can also be a major cause of burn out if it doesn't cut itself some slack. If it doesn't allow itself to recognise that the to do list is just a list of things.
The world will not come crashing down around you if the list doesn't get finished (which btw, it never will!). Defined root people know this to be true - just watch them. They pick the top 3 things on their lists and get what they can get done.
DON'T NOT go on that holiday.
DON'T NOT spend time with your kids or lived ones.
DON'T NOT take time to do things that light you up.
You'll be happier, healthier and achieve far more in the long run if you recognise that list as just a storage place for your thoughts.
Following your strategy will show you what NEEDS to be done.
I sweated some onions, added chopped carrots, then the beef joint, browning on all sides. In went chicken stock and red wine (about a 60/40 mix, enough to almost but not quite cover the meat), chopped mushrooms, salt and pepper, a pinch of oregano. Covered and roasted in the oven for 2.5 hours.
Served with roasted sweet potato, cabbage cooked in butter and garlic, broccoli and the braising juices. Yum.

In relation to my last post. The words from "upstream" speak what I have been discovering. We got to show the kids some different parts of the world this year. But of all the places we travelled. Our best times - where we felt filled up with peace and love and gratitude were not in the beautiful castles or cities or museums. But in spots like these. Walking on the dirt among the almond trees and olive trees and cow shit. Playing with sticks and rocks. Collecting. Seeing. Touching and feeling everything in the quiet, wild, open spaces. There is a reason why our kids beg to go camping. It's primal. We need to be connected to the dirt. And everything that grows in it.

What a life changing year it’s been since my last. I wouldn’t change a thing because now I can confidently be the woman today because of the journey. It’s sounds cliché but it’s the absolute truth. .
What did the last year teach me?. . .
• I learnt to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
• All storms do pass. Pain is not forever and the sun will shine again. .
• Honesty, no matter how painful, is always the best policy. .
• I learnt to enjoy solitude without being lonely
• I’m truly more capable than I ever gave myself credit for. .
• Crying a lot doesn’t mean I’m not brave.
• I learnt that there is always more unraveling of myself to do.
• I learnt other people’s emotions are not mine and therefore I’m not responsible for them. This one still takes so much practice.
• I learnt that I’m flawed but still worthy.
• If you fuck with me I will cut you.
• Setting strong boundaries is imperative to my existence. .
• Second chances do exist, with other people and myself.
• Love and positivity of beautiful people in this world has great power and has restored my faith in humanity. .

Why is it that we insist on categorizing life? Why do we have to call a meal breakfast, lunch or dinner? Or a diet Keto, Paleo or Primal? All this compartmentalization does is shrink our view of the big picture which for me, when it comes to my health and by extension the enjoyment of life, is to do the absolute BEST I can do by whatever means are available to me.
I follow a Paleo diet/lifestyle and have done for almost 10 years now. In those years I have also dabbled in the Primal and Keto diets. Intermittent fasting naturally crept onto the scene because eating whole, natural, nutrient dense foods will automatically result in eating less food. Its true. Yesterday my husband asked me how many calories I eat in a day (we talk about this food thing a LOT). A rough guess would be around 1000. Some days might be a little more if I've been more active and other days less if I've been doing my best impression of a sloth.
The thing is even after all these years I still don't count calories or portion my food, consciously. Subconsciously I do but only because I am pretty damn tuned into what my nutritional needs are. And that is where diet and nutrition has gone off the rails; we aren't paying attention to our needs. The good news is it's easy to do. Want me to show you how? Give me a Hell Yeah below and I will!
