Feel the burn!
This is the easy part. Everyone tells me that I'm going to loose strength when I get to the cut and I'm going to hate it. They're partially right. I do love moving heavy weight, but I'm also the sadist that loves the burn. Strength training has always been process oriented for me. I enjoy doing the work. It would be a lie if I said I didnt care if I got stronger, but I know that through program specificity and making the needed adjustments along the way, I'll get there. I'm hoping that will be enough to keep me going through feeling my weakest ever. Until then, I'll embracing the suck, because what doesnt kill you, makes you stronger, even though it hurts like hell.
Some science for your day:
Contrary to popular bro-science belief, lactic acid is not the enemy and doesn't cause soreness or that burn you feel. The real culprit in the burn is the pH balance due to released H+ ions, but even that is started to be cleared out soon after you stop exercising. The soreness is due to the micro tears in the fibers which are the catalyst for growth. So when they say you dont get stronger in the gym, listen! The muscles are physically damaged in the gym and it is during recovery that you actually get stronger. You're welcome!
