It's 'cause you're laying on a gutter
you envy those standing upright
It's 'cause you're unhealthy
you envy those who are healthy.
It's 'cause you're are standing upright
you shoot for the stars and moon
It's 'cause you are healthy
you envy those who are pretty and handsome.
what if you lend your hand
to whoever maybe lying on a gutter
while you're upright
instead of shooting for the stars and moon.
what if you lend even a penny
to whoever maybe unhealthy
while you're healthy
instead of wishing to be handsome and pretty.
what if you and I, we choose to share
instead of accumulating
what if you and I, we choose to give
instead of taking.
just think, and think a little deeper
nobody is gonna live here forever anyway
nobody has ever took even a strand
a strand of one's own hair from here
when they died anyway.
There is no collection of words to describe the magnitude of feelings I've felt since performing last night... First time ever performing my poetry and to have it be received and appreciated like this is surreal! Check out the full post on my artist account @elle.untethered ·

Happy Birthday, Edgar Allan Poe! I can’t believe I almost missed this date. The man who started my entire wondering, wandering course. I also can’t believe that more people aren’t marking this occasion. I know he was very much a southern man of his time. I have grappled with this as someone who truly loves his tales and poems. It almost seemed like May Johnson wrote Pym for me as much as himself to explore the conundrum of a black man loving the writings of an avowed racist. I carry that knowledge with my admiration and criticism of the man and the artist. My poem The Funeral hopefully conveys that too. Happy Birthday, Poe. I hope the afterlife is as dark as you imagined.
It is never too late to be who you want to be, or do what you want to do.
It is never too late to try something new, or let go of something old.
It is never too late to find the things you’ve been seeking, or to be surprised by things you didn’t know you needed.
It is never too late to see more, to learn more, to grow more.
It is never too late to fall in love again, or to renew the love you already have.
It is never too late to turn things around:
It is a wonder we ever met,
all the things that seemed to
have been going wrong
now finally make sense.
I was never supposed to be
Sorry I took a bit longer,
I can be stubborn you see
and the clues from the planets
seemed too unreal.
But somewhere deep within,
there was no doubt I'd find you
I listened to the whispers of the universe
and all its tales were always
of you and me.
My first poetry book, Unfollowing You, comes out Feb 5th. Pre-order and book tour via link in bio 🤗💖
