One week ago today, Nala had to have surgery for a torn ACL. She is so tough and so stoic I had NO idea that her injury was that severe. We were just playing ball in the yard when it happened😔
The recovery for her is very long and very strict and it means that she will miss out on all our hiking adventures we had planned for the summer. It will be at minimum 3 months before she’s allowed to resume any sort of normal activity again (if everything heals as it’s supposed to🤞🏼)
This was all very unexpected and very pricey, the cost of surgery alone was $5,000.00🤦🏼♀️ I did it because she deserves it, needs it, and she is my whole world. .
I’m a single dog mom (lol but it’s true) so the cost of this surgery and all of her post op care is more than I can afford so my friend was kind enough to set up a go fund me for Nalas care and I appreciate everyone who has donated or who would like to donate. I never ask for help but it’s not for me, it’s for her, and she deserves the world🌎she’s a special girl💗 .

For now we are taking it one day at a time and doing a little physical therapy to get her on the road to a quick and efficient recovery 👍🏼
Big Mama update! Big Mama had surgery today to remove all three mast cell tumors as well as the mammary tumor. We are happy to say that overall it went really well. 💗
When we spoke to the surgeon after the surgery, she said that given the location of one of the tumors, it couldn’t have gone better. When removing mast cell tumors, it’s important to get clean margins for best chance of no recurrence. Two of the tumors the surgeon is feeling pretty positive about the margins, whereas the largest tumor was located right on her ankle, which made things more difficult. The surgeon removed this tumor and as much tissue surrounding it as possible in an attempt for good margins.
All of the tumors have been sent off to be evaluated and we should know fairly early next week the stage of the tumors as well as an evaluation of the margins. Once those results are back, we will know more about the path forward.
The surgeon just called again a bit ago and Big Mama is already up and walking around. Apparently Big Mama is, what she called, a “drunk talker” as she hasn’t stopped expressing her opinions while on her pain medications.
Mama is staying at the veterinary hospital overnight and will be returning to her foster home tomorrow. For now, Mama’s job is to rest and heal and be snuggled. We are so happy to finally get those lumps off of her and we are hoping for good news next week. We will, of course, keep everyone up to date on information as soon as we know anything.
Thank you everyone for your continued support on Big Mama’s journey. If you would like to donate to Mama’s care, our PayPal link is in our bio.
